Many of these tarts are almost unbearably gorgeous and despite the title, there are also many pies. Lanlard provides the classics (shortcrust, puff pastry crusts) but also offers some non-run-of-the-mill basics like chocolate shortcrust and brioche dough. Vegetarians are practically spoiled for choice though vegans are left out with most of the recipes requiring either cheese or egg. There are little touches to the tarts that make them more interesting than usual-for instance 'Mediterranean' is often synonymous with roast tomato aubergine, and courgette but Lanlard adds halloumi, capers, and anchovies. Not unheard of but sadly not typical of British cookbooks (I guess this is technically a British/Breton cookbook though). Lanlard is not chatty so this is more for cooking from as it does have step by step photographs for certain recipes

Beautiful photos, good explanations of types of dough.... doubtful I'd make more than the Game Pie, just not what I cook right now. The Chocolate Earl Grey Tart w/Figs did make me drool!
