In the rereleased edition of Trout of the World, fans of James Prosek’s unique painting talent will revel in the addition of 30 new fish paintings and a newly penned preface. First released in 2003, Trout of the World features original watercolors of trout from around the world, ranging from the Oxus trout of eastern Afghanistan to the small golden brown trout of British chalk streams. Each unique painting is coupled with a historical profile of the fish, as well as personal reflections from the author. Prosek savors the beauty of various fishing spots, along with the fate of the species, contemplating man’s role in the extinction of animals. Both sensitive and informative, Trout of the World is a must for the library of the recreational fisherman as ichthyologist.
A must have for every trout lover, and for whoever enjoys the amazing sport which is angling. This book is sure to captivate you with Prosek's amazing watercolour paintings, incredibly detailed and "alive". The writing is excellent, and manages to always keep you "hooked" (no pun intended) on the history and science of these marvelous fishes; it makes you feel like you're right behind his shoulder as he searches for, fishes, and paints these amazing creatures. In short, I definitely recommend this. Makes a great gift for any fish lovers, too.
Beautifully done book with incredible artwork. I’ve loved Prosek’s work since seeing his paintings hang in my grandfather’s office. Very educational and well researched. This is a must have for anyone fond of the sport of fishing or trout in general.
More of a coffee table book than an overview of different species of Trout and Char etc, but does have some interesting facts and anecdotes on various fish and beautiful paintings
This is a beautiful book of James Prosek's watercolor paintings of trout. With only a nod toward the trout of North America, it really should be called "Trout of the Old World."
