Renee Winfield returns to southern Arizona where she spent her happiest years as a child with the Camerons before being whisked away to another state. She runs into her childhood crush, Dan Cooper, who’s now the county sheriff.

Instant attraction sparks between Renee and Dan but there’s one problem. Renee has traveled to Arizona with her boyfriend, Jerry, who’s also her financial manager.

With verbal abuse from Jerry escalating, Renee feels like her life is unraveling and wonders how she could ever have had feelings for him. So kind and supportive in the beginning, Jerry’s behavior and unseemly activities are proving it was all a mask. When she sees Jerry for who he really is, she’s ready to head out the door. Problem is that as her financial manager, he has control of her money.

Dan rescues Renee from what has turned out to be a nightmare, which is only getting worse by the minute. Jerry has been using her money to buy shipments of illegal drugs but no one can prove it.

The only light for Renee is having Dan in her life and the growing love between them.

But Jerry isn’t ready to let go…of Renee’s money. Unknowingly she signed a paper that makes him her sole beneficiary. She’s worth more to him dead than alive. Dan’s love and protection, and Renee’s will to live, might not be enough.

This was a bit dark. Renee has a boyfriend, Jerry. He's mean and controlling. She's under his thumb, and he's really scary - oh yeah, and he's an a***hole. He doesn't let Renee talk to Sheriff Dan - her friend when she was younger. Jerry seems to be jealous at this point (he hasn't hit her yet, but I'm thinking he will at some point). This is a story about drugs, and Jerry stealing Renee's money.
It was a good story that kept me really into it. Great characters and storyline.
Really enjoyed reading this. 4☆

Dan and Renee..

I love reading Cheyenne McCray's books. Dan, who is a sheriff in a small town and Renee, who returns to a small town that she loves. How the two get together, and who Dan helps Renee escape her drug physco, boyfriend..

Good story

This book flowed along nicely. I enjoyed the spice level and the touch of a scare she threw in there I wasn't expecting! I will definitely be reading more by this writer!

This was such a great book, and probably the most intense book of this series. Renee thought her boyfriend was in love with her but all that changed as soon as the verbal abuse finally started to get to Renee. Then Jerry hit's her and threatens to kill her...add the intense attraction Renee has to Dan that is blatantly obvious to anyone paying attention to them when they are around one another and that makes a huge pot to stir up a lot of trouble in. ...and trouble it stirs up, LOTS and LOTS of trouble, deadly trouble.
I was hoping before that Danica and Dan would end up together but I am SO glad they didn't because Renee is perfect for Dan in so many ways...and who the hell knew Dan was a tie 'em up kind of guy?!

This was by far my favorite book in this series, it had romance, suspense...it made me laugh and had me on edge wondering how Renee was going to get out the situations she found herself in. My only complaint is we didn't get an Epilogue .
Again with this book I highly recommend this series and also I recommend reading this BEFORE reading the Riding Tall series because Roses & Saddles is a tie between for the two families the Cameron's and the McBride's.

Renee is in an emotionally abusive relationship, but doesn't know how to get out of it. The action in this story is great, and there are twists. The sex is great and the drama is intense. Dan comes to the rescue and is a cowboy/cop in shining armor. Renee and Dan make a great couple.

The one thing I wish this whole series had would be for the stories to be longer. The average time it took to read each book was about 4 hours.
