His detailed illustrations add to the fun and feature a cast of unusual animals-including Spike the hedgehog and Ike the coatimundi.

Le Guin, Hornbooks and Inkwells by Verla Kay, Big Pumpkin by Erica Silverman, Every Living Thing by Cynthia Rylant, and Brother Hugo and the Bear by Katy Beebe. This book may be tricky for kids...deciding which story line to follow, the text, or the conversation in the illustrations. It is way too confusing to follow both at the same time, so I see it as 2 stories in one, per say. However, I'd use the simple, rhyming text with my toddlers (and include puppets/props).
It was a bit tricky to decide whether to read the word bubbles or the text at the bottom of the page first. Those two sets of text weren't as cohesive as I might have liked, but the illustrations were nice and I chuckled at the blue-footed booby panels.
Spike and Ike take a hike and come across different animals. What I did like is that this could be used with students to expand sentences. Problem is the book is not written in sentences. I give it an OK rating.
I liked the idea of this book and the rhyming words, but oh, how distracted I was by the word bubbles (and the TERRIBLE font used) and the boring illustrations.
If I could shake hands with the Author of this book I would be honored! My kids love the rhymes and illustrations. I have lost count of how many times we read it.
