We were recommended this book by ward friends (well, they've gone off to the 3rd ward) of ours who successfully remodeled their basement and did a wonderful job. This book really is the best you can find with most basic home improvement projects detailed with pictures and easy-to-understand instructions. It is mighty heavy, though, so would work too as a doorstop!

Excellent! This book has already more than paid for itself, just by enabling me (not a particularly handy type) to do some things around the house I'd otherwise have been calling a pro to do, e.g. installing a new garbage disposal. Definitely useful for any amateur doing household maintenance or improvements.
