The Colorado Fosters #1

Cole's Christmas Wish

Rate this book
Cole Foster had only one wish this Christmas…

And that was for Rachel Merriday to realize, finally, that she was in love with him! The only problem was, he and Rachel were friends… just friends. Sure, they kissed that once—and what a kiss!—but Cole was waiting for the right time to tell her how he really felt.

But has time run out? Rachel was coming home to Colorado for Christmas with a new man! And from what Cole's been hearing, this guy might just be "the one." How could that be, when it's been so obvious from the moment Rachel first leveled him with a snowball as kids, that it's Cole she should be kissing under the mistletoe!

Maybe now is the right time to finally let Rachel know that all he wants for Christmas…is her.

***Detailed Review***

You know that feeling when you pass up a good sale? How you could literally kick yourself for not going for it? Well, that’s how Cole Foster feels when it comes to Rachel Merriday. Putting off telling Rachel his feelings, Cole now faces that he’s too late, as Rachel visits for Christmas and brings her boyfriend, Andrew with her.

COLE’S CHRISTMAS WISH was definitely a great book. I loved watching this two go about telling the other how they felt in the most complicated, messed up ways possible.

Offsetting Rachel’s news, Cole makes up his own serious girlfriend, Cupcake who later gets the code name of ‘Mary’, and enlists Rachel’s help in ways to ‘whoo’ her. His theory? He’ll use Rachel’s own help to win her over.

Meanwhile, Rachel deals with her own relationship with Andrew. Hoping this trip can solidify her feelings, it turns out to only bring up more questions.

Shopping together makes them both wish for what could be and go back to his accident that was closely followed by her running away, just hours after their kiss.

Her relationship with Andrew ends after she realizes she loves Cole. You can’t feel too sorry for Andrew as he wasn’t looking for love in the first place, just a good partnership.

When Rachel finally pieces the puzzle together and realizes she’s ‘Mary’ I was thrilled that she wasn’t mad. Although not ecstatic he lied, she saw the romantic notion behind it. But she’s not going to let him get away with it without a little payback.

Not telling Cole about Andrew, Rachel continues helping Cole buy gifts for ‘Mary’, but adds in a few stores of her own to test Cole’s resolve.

Only both their plans nearly backfire as both lets the past and pride keep them from ending the silly charade.

As Rachel’s leaving town, it’s a gift that has her changing her mind and turning around. Ready to give her and Cole on last chance.

Cole meanwhile has put together that she’s known and is about to chase after her when she reappears. Now that the game is over, these two can finally have their happily ever after.

I really liked this book. Cole was a really nice guy though a little clueless. He and Rachel had been friends since they were kids and had just started moving it up to the next level when he got hurt and she left him. He's ready to try again when she comes back for Christmas, but then he finds out she's bringing a guy with her. He is stunned and not sure what to do. When he meets her boyfriend he makes up a serious girlfriend for himself. He gets her to help him shop for this girlfriend all the time buying things that are actually for her. Cole really wants to be able to tell her how he feels, but he also knows that if she is really in love with the other guy he will stay silent because he wants her to be happy. Rachel is a nice girl but because of her parents, who fight all the time and she gets caught in the middle, really wants a loving husband and family of her own. She has brought Andrew home with her in hopes that he will propose over the holidays. As the time goes on you can see that the connection just isn't there between them, but the chemistry between Rachel and Cole is obvious. Rachel has a tendency to want to avoid difficult situations of any kind so she had bailed on him before. Rachel knows that she blew it when she left him before, but doesn't know how to make things right. She quickly realizes that a life with Andrew is not what she wants, but doesn't want to make a move on Cole and mess up his relationship. I loved it when she found out about the deception and the way she turned the tables. I really enjoyed the final scene that included the visiting Foster cousins (from the Foster Brothers books).

I hate romances where the premise is based on game-playing and that was this whole book. The epilogue was cute, which gave it an extra star.

3.5 Stars. Best friends from their very first snowball fight, former pro skier, Cole, and socialite, Rachel, kissed once upon a time, but circumstances prevented them from taking things further. This Christmas, Cole wants things to be different between them, he wants more, only Rachel brings another guy home to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, a guy she says might be the one for her.

Cole comes from the sort of big, loving family that perfectly sets the mood for a Christmas story, meantime, Rachel’s from a household full of squabbling, which has left her with an urge to escape whenever the going gets rough in relationships, but also a longing for the solid family life Cole has.

The conflict in this story probably could have been resolved with one honest conversation, but it’s not like honesty is the easiest thing in the world when it means leaving your heart open for crushing, plus, even if Cole’s scheme to find out if Rachel felt something for him seemed a little hair-brained, it was cute and fun, and managed to romanticize shopping, which is no small feat at this time of the year.
