Still the One is a cute second chance romance.
Burke and Tiffany's company is hoping to close a deal with a Japanese company, but in order to do that, Burke and Tiffany need to be married to each other, not just be co-owners. The company they're hoping to do business with is ultra traditional, and having unmarried men and women be business partners is just not done. So, Tiffany came up with the idea for the two of them to get married, but only for the business' sake. But, as they're about to tie the knot, lo and behold, but Burke's ex wife comes running down the aisle looking like a drowned rat, saying to stop the wedding...Oops!
Since Ally chased Tiffany off, Burke, with the oh so innocent help of his grandfather, Frederick, comes up with the brilliant idea for Ally to pose as his wife in order for his company to save their business deal. Ally isn't having any of it at first, knowing she's just there to ask Burke to sign the divorce papers she forgot to send to him all those years ago. But, when Burke's grandfather lays an epic guilt trip on her, she caves, and agrees to live in his guest house for the next two weeks, just long enough for the deal to go through.
Of course, you know things can't possibly be as cut and dried as that arrangement, and soon, they're playing cat and mouse games of jealousy and trying to keep the other off their minds, and trying not to fall in bed with each other. Of course they don't succeed and of course their feelings come back, but will Burke be able to make up for his ridiculous statement he made after their first reunion in bed? Will he be able to convince her he loves her, and not just because he's trying to outdo her best friend, the man he thought was her lover?
If you're in the mood for something cute and light, Still the One is the story for you. Just don't come into it thinking it's some epic romantic tale of second chances and gobs of sexy times and alpha males and all that, because Still the One is not that. It's cute, it's fun and it's about as deep as a puddle. But, it's entertaining and good for about an hour of your time if you're so inclined.

They decide they will marry for the sake of the business, but the wedding never takes place because Burke's ex shows up and stops the wedding.
Now what to do?? Burke's grandfather suggests saving his company by having Ally pose as his wife for the business deal to go through. Ally of course, is reluctant. She was just there to have him sign the original divorce papers anyway. The grandfather puts a massive guilt trip on her and Ally relents. She agrees to do this for two weeks. You can guess how things go from there!
I love these types of books because the arrangements never go as planned is and this is what happens here! Being in close proximity to each other brings up old feelings both thought were buried. Soon things come to a head and they are in bed. Can they find a way to wade through all the baggage these two bring to the table and find a happy ending?? I enjoyed finding out if they could.

A enjoyable comical romance about marriage of convenience gone awry. The chemistry between Burke and Ally is combustible enough to ignite the pages...yet their misunderstandings of cross purposes were what brought the comedy to their second chance at marriage. From the first page you’ll be intrigued by Ally’s intent, but will be laughing as the combinations of misfortunes she encounters sets the tone for the story.
There were instances that I’d have liked to have delved further into though, i.e. what Mrs Henry wanted to say to Ally at the cocktail party...even though you as the reader are pretty sure what that was, having it brought to light with the reason why would have added much to the cross purpose that was contrived to derail Burke and Ally’s second chance at marriage, but there were delightful surprises that added to the intrigue used to bring them back together.

Ce qui m’a tout de suite séduite pour ce livre, c’est sa couverture, très girly avec sa pièce montée de mariage et ses mariés pas très conventionnels. Le synopsis laissait présager une histoire à la fois drôle, attendrissante et pleine de rebondissement. Ma curiosité avais donc été suffisamment éveillée et j’avais hâte de découvrir ce qu’elle allait me réserver.
Dans ce roman nous faisons la connaissance d’Ally, une jeune femme au passé douloureux qui, aujourd’hui, travail pour son propre compte et s’est réconcilié avec elle-même. Elle va apprendre par le biais de sa grand-mère que son ex mari Burke va se remarier. Jusque là, pas de quoi fouetter un chat mais il s’avère qu’Ally n’a jamais signé les papiers de leur divorce et par conséquent, ils sont toujours mari et femme. Bien décidé à arrêter ce mariage mais aussi à quel point elle a changé et évolué, elle se rend sur place le jour de la cérémonie et fait une entrée plutôt théâtrale. A partir de ce moment s’en suit de nouvelles disputes, quiproquos et autres scènes rocambolesque qui mènera à un dénouement on ne peut plus fidèle à Ally et Burke.
Ally est un personnage auquel on s’identifie très facilement. D’un tempérament plutôt fort, elle est une femme accomplie. Par le passé, elle manquait de confiance en elle et ne supportait pas l’image de son corps. Après avoir été tour à tour très forte et très maigre, elle a laissé son manque de confiance en elle la submerger et est devenue très jalouse ce qui a conduit à la fin de son mariage avec Burke. Aujourd’hui femme accomplie et épanouie, elle est avant tout une battante et garde son caractère bien trempé. Son histoire m’a beaucoup touché puisqu’elle concerne une grande partie des jeune femme et j’ai beaucoup aimé son caractère. Burke est un homme qui consacre la plupart de son temps à son entreprise avec son associé Tiffany. Blessé par sa rupture avec Ally, il ne s’en ai jamais vraiment remis et garde toujours des sentiments pour elle. Mais comme tout homme qui se respecte il ne veut surtout pas lui dire et encore moins lui montrer. Là où je le pensais arrogant et trop sûr de lui, j’ai beaucoup apprécié cette petite faiblesse dans son caractère. Tiffany, l’associée de Burke, passe tout d’abord pour une peste de haut rang et au final c’est une femme au coeur tendre et très romantique que j’ai beaucoup aimé. Et que dire de la grand-mère d’Ally et du grand père de Burke? Deux adorable tourtereaux qui m’ont beaucoup fait rire et dont les plans vont beaucoup aider leurs petits enfants! Des personnages très attachants et absolument adorable.
La plume de l’auteur est plutôt fluide et très agréable à lire, j’ai dévoré ce roman en moins de temps qu’il n’en faut pour le dire. Le vocabulaire est courant et donc accessible à tous. L’histoire est drôle et les personnages des plus attachants mais je dois bien avouer que beaucoup de choses étaient bien trop prévisible à mon goût. Rien de bien original ou de très surprenant en somme mais il n’en reste pas moins que c’est un roman simple, frais et sans prise de tête avec une jolie romance tout de même. La relation entre les personnage parait sortir tout droit d’une histoire vraie et mène à des situations tour à tour cocasse et romantique.
Pour conclure, c’est un roman frais et simple qui m’a fait passé un bon moment de lecture avec une romance, une jolie parenthèse dans le quotidien!

Je m’attendais à beaucoup mieux. La quatrième de couverture est alléchante et j’escomptais une histoire plus dynamique. Ally intervient lors du mariage de son ex. Sauf que ce n’est pas son ex-mari. Les papiers n’ont pas été signé. Ca fait six ans qu’elle a fui le domicile conjugal et Burke qui a besoin d’être marié pour conclure une affaire a décidé de contracter un faux mariage avec sa collaboratrice. Burke est un personnage assez vide, Ally est plus étoffée, on comprend le questionnement de son comportement mais elle ne m’a pas inspiré plus de sympathie que ça. L’histoire se déroule sans surprise et à part les petites pointes entre Burke et le faux petit ami d’Ally ; il n’y a rien de drôle.
Bref, lecture pas génial.

Ce n’est pas de la grande lecture mais c’est un très bon scénario de comédie romantique qui pourrait être facilement adapté en film ! L’histoire est assez drôle sur le démarrage puisque Ally annonce le jour du mariage de Burke (et ce carrément à l’Eglise) qu’ils ne sont pas divorcés ! Heureusement que ce mariage est un mariage de convenance sans réels sentiments pour avoir l’espoir de signer un contrat sinon je ne sais pas comment ça aurait pu tourner ! Dans tous les cas, vu le dérangement Burke demande à Ally de rester sa femme pour le contrat et forcément comment ne pas repenser au début de leur mariage quand ils étaient encore ensemble ? Une bonne dose d’humour, d’amour et un bon livre pour l’été !

Not as good as the first book,Just One Look, I read by Ms Reeves. Other than the hilarious and crazy beginning of Still The One, it quickly mellowed out. With the way the book started, I expected the heroine to get into much more trouble than she did. More snappy dialogue and funny situations would have fit this story well. The hero was plenty frustrated, but a bit too absent in the book.
Still The One is a good read, but doesn't quite reach up to Just One Look which I was completely in love with.
