Submissive Mia Manetti is devastated when her first Master uncollars her just as she was hoping for a permanent relationship with him. Trying to move on, she agrees to sub for a powerful and sexy new Dom.
Chess Ryan has wanted Mia from the first moment he saw her at Club Restraint, but it was always "hands off" because she belonged to his friend Philip. Now, thanks to that friend's maneuvers, Mia is finally his. But only for a little while.
Mia finds it increasingly difficult to keep her feelings in check as she experiences erotic delights with Master Chess, sensual and sexual fantasies that she's never known before. Is she setting herself up for another heart ache?
Guilt, secrets and misplaced pride all keep Chess and Mia from being completely honest with each other. As they connect sexually and emotionally, they realize their relationship has grown too serious to be called "play". How far are they willing to go as Master and slave?
Nona Raines became hooked on romances when she first picked up "The Flame and the Flower" by Kathleen Woodiwiss (and she's not telling how long ago that was). Romances may have changed since then, but her love for a good love story has not. She's been writing off and on for years, but it was only when she joined the Central New York Romance Writers Association that she finally gained the support and confidence she needed to complete a manuscript.
Nona lives in upstate New York with her many pets and is currently working on her next novel. A former librarian, she enjoys reading books of all genres and discussing them with others. She is thrilled to finally be able to call herself an author.
Mia is on top of the world. It's her one-year anniversary with her Dom and they are dining at an expensive restaurant. She is excited to hear the cherished words come out of his mouth to take them to the next step. There is a reason why children are cautioned against making assumptions. Mia's hopes are crushed in six small words in one sentence: "But it's time for us to move on."
Mia is a social worker who dedicates her life taking care of others. She's been the responsible one, raising her siblings as her mother struggled to provide food and shelter. Mia's time as a submissive under a loving experienced Dom finally gives her the one thing she craves. Mia's service needs to be balanced by a Dom who will, in return, provide for her needs. Turned away so abruptly, Mia is lost and hurt.
This story is beautifully written about a sub that loses her Dom without any notice. The pain and betrayal from the rejection is laid out for all to see. No one is more stunned to witness it than Francesco Ryan. Francesco is friends with Mia's Dom, Philip. Francesco, known as Master Chess in the BDSM world, is attracted to Mia and doesn't understand why Philip would let her go. Determined to watch over her, Master Chess grows close to her, despite his own personal problems.
Ms. Raines creates all too real painful conflicts. Her characters are true to their life experiences and their responses to outside forces. The sweetness she exhibits between a newly budding BDSM relationship is moving. Even the side stories of Mia's work enhance this story to make it rich and believable. Ms. Raines' writing voice is captivating and pulls the reader into the story, hurting for the characters and wishing for a happy outcome. When it appears all hope is lost, Ms. Raines carefully pulls everything together in a happily for now resolution. The unsurprising hidden secrets, once revealed, make sense. The solution is a bit too close to a fairy godmother waving a magic wand and making it all right in the world. Still, the reconciliation is bittersweet and the foundation for a new beginning.
UNCOLLARED actually gets 3.5 stars from me. This BDSM story is recommended for romantics who cling to hope and are rewarded with a happy ending.
In the blink of an eye, Mia Manetti’s world takes a tumble for the worst when out of the blue her Master uncollars her. Devastated beyond belief, as a submissive, Mia is at a loss after losing her very first Master without an explanation. After weeks of wallowing in self-pity, hesitantly Mia agrees to play with another Dom – Master Chess.
Since the first moment he laid eyes on her at Club Restraint, Chess Ryan has secretly lusted after Mia Manetti. But, due to his friendship with her Master; Chess only admires her from afar. That is until his friend uncollars Mia and then proceeds to deviously manipulate Chess into exploring his sexual fantasies with Mia.
Neither is expecting their lust for one another to quickly turn into something more meaningful; will Mia and Chess take their relationship into the next permanent level or will each allow hurtful secrets from their past to tear them apart?
Uncollared is a heartfelt storyline filled with lots of unearthing happenings that will have you reaching for a few tissues. I really liked how author Nora Raines allows the reader to feel the true pains and pleasures of Mia as she deals with the numerous curveballs that life has thrown her way. Under the masterful control of Chess, Mia is able to blossom into the submissive that she is meant to be. And, let’s not forget about the BDSM play action within the novella. Wow! Talk about mega hot, fanning face sexual interaction! After her first night with Master Chess, it becomes apparent to Mia that her previous Master had not really introduced her to the full blown joys of BDSM foreplay. It is no wonder Mia has a hard time keeping her feelings for Chess in check. Uncollared is truly an enjoyable read.

Uncollared by Nona Raines is not part of a series but I hope we get to see more of these characters in the future. I chose this book because after reading the summery I had to know how this book would turn out.
Mia Manetti is submissive and after a year with her first master, Philip she is expecting a permanent collar but gets released instead. Mia is devastated and stays away from the lifestyle until her first master’s best friend comes calling to take care of her. Mia is a frustrating character because she fits what many think a submissive is, way too delicate and unable to stand up for themselves. I wanted to shake her many times through the story and yell “get a backbone”.
Chess Ryan is a Dom who is Mia’s first master’s best friend, Philip and has been in love with Mia since he first saw her. When Philip finds out how Mia has been copping since he released her he send Chess on a mission to help her. Chess does a good job of getting Mia to do what he wants but I don’t like that he does not tell her the truth right from the start. It makes me wonder what else he hides from her. The chemistry between Chess and Mia is blistering and the sex scenes are scorching hot.
I found this book to be well written but impractical at times. I find Mia’s reaction to be uncollared by her first master and not calling him out about it unrealistic and not believable in the least. The main and secondary characters were interesting. Overall, this was a good book despite how improbable it was at times.
This was a nice story. The center of this story was a woman who experiencing the end of a physical Dominate/Sub relationship and is hurt because she fell for someone who never promised her anything. He took her out to dinner and kindly and tenderly told her it was over. She is devastated but realizes she allowed herself to feel emotions for someone who never promised her a love relationship. She quickly is pursued by Chess and quickly she starts to fall for him...despite promising herself she would not do this again. This is a great story about misunderstandings...Things are not as they seem. It is a story that has a HEA and my only complaint is that it resolves way to quickly. If this book had 50 extra pages and some extra effort was put into the ending...There is a secondary story running with her family and the struggle chase has and how he has hurt her feelings to push her away and everyone makes up so easily....a little more background and it would have been top notch! Having said that....I enjoyed it and would read more from this author.

What a fantastic story. Mia’s life crumbles before her when she is out of the blue uncollared without explanation. My heart broke during the opening scene of this story, because even I felt she, as a slave, deserved a reason for such a life changing decision.
When Chess came to her rescue, I breathed a sigh of relief hoping maybe this man might help her find the reasons for his friend’s unwarranted dismissal of Mia.
Soon after it was apparent that Mia and her previous master didn’t share a full relationship and I questioned if maybe that was why he wanted her to find a new master, believing he’d served his purpose for their time together.
In time, I witnessed Mia flourish under Chess’ control. Although he has his own issues that prevent them from moving completely forward, the sizzling chemistry between them made me hope they’d find a happy ending. In the end when the twist gave me clarity, I saw how two caring individuals put aside their personal relationship to help a friend in need. This book is one I enjoyed reading, although the roller coaster made me need a tissue or two.
Mia finds herself without a Dom after her Master dismisses her. Brokenhearted, she withdraws from the life she had know for the previous year. It's not until Chess Ryan, another Dom from her club, brings her back into the world that she discovers what she had before was nothing like what Chess could give her.
Mia and Chess were an interesting couple. They both were able to get something out of the D / s relationship that they don't have in their everyday lives. For Mia, that meant giving up control and letting someone else take care of her. For Chess, that meant having control over one aspect of his life when everything else was spiraling out of control. Their relationship was as much about learning to love themselves and each other as it was about being Master and slave. They had a lot of emotional issues to get over, but when they decided that what they wanted was each other they got it together.
A quick read, that had it's erotic and emotional elements that captured the readers attention.
I wasn't sure what to expect with Uncollared, since I've never read a bdsm romance before. I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of characterization of the hero and heroine. I really liked Mia and Chance, and I enjoyed learning about their histories. I also liked the slow progression of their relationship in terms of getting to know each other and learning to trust one another. Some of their earliest sexual encounters together were very sensual and satisfying. All in all, I enjoyed this read, and was impressed by this author's writing.
Mia had been in a BDSM relationship with an older man. She had thought that things were good. When he uncollared her, she was devistated. He didn't even give her a reason.
Chess was a "big" man in the BDSM club, everyone wanted to scene with him. He made Mia uncomfortable. There were sparks there, but how could that be?
Chess meets up with Mia and asks her to be with him. But there is some trust issues.
There is also an HEA at the end of the book. Read it to find out what happens.
Nona is a new author to me, but I like her style and will be looking for other books by her.
While this was well written and a somewhat enjoyable read it was sort of forgettable. Nothing really stuck out where I would want to possibly re-read it in the future. Standard BDSM theme of coming together then the issues tearing them apart then coming back together again at the end. Nothing crazy happened to spice up the middle of the story. The development of the relationship and writing is what saved this book from a lower rating from me.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Having recently separated from my husband, my heart broke for Mia in the opening chapter. I was happy to see Chase wanting to help Mia develop her submissiveness. This was a quickie to read but full of emotion. So have your tissues ready!
Cheesy. For instance, the Dom nicknames the Sub "ruffles". After that, I could not take any of it seriously. It did not feel like an authentic portrayal of a Dom/Sub relationship.
