'Vampires' by Elwood D. Baumann, published in 1977, is a very brisk read at only 82 pages (not including the bibliography and index) and contains a few chapters dedicated to historical figures such as Count Dracula/Vlad Tepes (of course), Countess Bathory, and Gilles de Retz. This book also features stories about vampires of legend that are a bit lesser-known which span from centuries ago up to the twentieth century. This latter group of stories read as though they are not merely myths but factual, and are enjoyable if you can suspend your disbelief.
