An Attempt To Fill The Void...

Rate this book
My journey in writing began in the year 2005. This book compiles all of the poetry since that journey began until the day this book was published. Inside, you will find an undiluted look into the psyche of my mind. Poems fueled by frustration, love, nature, human-nature, and general interests. I can tell you that some poems will be better than others but all were born from a little piece of my soul. An artist does not start out painting masterpieces but an artist's style can sometimes be seen in both their finger paintings and masterpieces alike. With words as my paintbrush and my heart as my guide I bare this book, my soul, for all to gaze upon. Do not be afraid to immerse yourself in the un-tempered chasm and allow your thoughts to wander in between the lines themselves.

Jake Jeffries has been an avid reader all of his life. His mother began teaching him how to read at age three with Dr. Suess and Mercy Mayer books. At age six he discovered Goosebumps and Animorphs. After that he continued with The Lord of the Rings, The Divine Comedy, The Odyssey, and The Dresden Files among many others.

His love of fantasy shines through in all of his interests. He loves role-playing games whether they are console or table-top, has an impressive film collection stocked with his favorites, a comic collection that is continually growing, and a bookshelf that is nothing to scoff at.

Writing is one of the only ways that he can get the voices in his head to be quiet. He figures that if the different characters in his head are going to interact and talk to each other anyway then he might as well chronicle everything and share it with the world.

He is a self-declared coffee and tea connoisseur. Caffeine flows through his veins along with what blood is allowed and is as crucial to his body as the need to breathe.

When he isn’t writing Jake has a day job as a Mechanical Engineer that keeps his mind busy.

He resides in Central Indiana with his family.

I won a free copy of this poetry book from a Goodreads giveaway. I wasn't sure what to expect beforehand, but I found the collection diverse and enjoyable. As the poet himself states in the beginning of the book, there are certainly some poems that are better than others, but it was enjoyable reading all the way through. Many of the poems sounded kind of like song lyrics to me, perhaps because many of them have some kind of repeating chorus. As a fellow poet and author, I enjoyed getting to see into the mind of another.
