The first edition was marketed by a lousy publisher who did not bother to edit it at all. I bought the rights back, had it fully edited and had a new cover drawn up for it. It's now a MUCH better novel, as the Second edition. Also the price is about 1/3rd of what it was under that so-called publisher.
I really enjoyed this novel-- it was fast paced with colorful characters and a great plot that took me all over the world and introduced me to the world of fantasy. Very memorable characters and action-filled scenes with great moments-- highly recommend!
I’ve recently read Angelo’s ‘Cagliostro’ book, and thoroughly enjoyed it. With this in mind when I saw he had another book out – I jumped at the chance to read it!
This is a book suitable for nearly all ages. I enjoyed the subtle and yet strong authorial message that strength isn’t always about those that shout and smash, and that we need to appreciate what we have when we have it. A fun read, this reminded me of the recent Marvel films with its wit, humour, grand sense of adventure and the conscious fact neither the movies nor this book take themselves too seriously.
A sweeping range of characters, good dialogue and a lovely pace all make this a nice easy read. If you enjoy YA fantasy (which this predominantly is) then I do urge you to give this a shot. Yes, there are aspects of the editing that are a bit ropey and could do with a fine tune (repetitive sections and a little bit too much telling rather than showing), but I don’t feel this detracts too much.
I am the author so I won't be reviewing it. Obviously I'm biased, but if you love fantasy and action adventure, you'll love this book. Think a cross between Harry Potter/Indiana Jones/Lord of the Rings. I'm getting a lot of good word of mouth reviews and Barnes and Noble called it one of the best of the month for June, Give it a chance, you'll really like it!
A highly powerful sorcerer gone bad banished from his planet to earth with no powers. He learns a lesson in humility from the friends he makes along the way. He journey's through different countries to retrieve his lost powers from different power sources. Along the way one of his companions Amanda (who resembles his wife from his former planet) is taken by soul stealing demons that unknown to him at the time works for a ex enemy he banished between worlds million of years earlier.Crystalon the sorcerer and his friends Dr. Daniel Walker a Knight of the Golden Dawn which fights against evil.Joe Carboneri a truck driver who found Crys and took him to the hospital. They all go together on a mission to retrieve Crystalon's powers in order to rescue Amanda. Along the way they have to fight off soul sucking demons and Vampire's. Together they save the world. This was a wonderful fun read.
Thanks to goodreads and Mr. Angelo for this First Reads giveaway! I like the story line. It's fun and exciting. I also like the main character, Crystalon. From the very beginning the book is well-paced. However, the book is full of those grammatical errors (punctuation, awkward tense changes) that seem to plague independently published works. I'm not trying to dismiss all indies, but an editor is important, even if s/he isn't a professional. I guess in the end I'd like to give it 2.5 stars because it's just not as well edited as my 3 star books.
Pointed in the direction of this book by my wife (who knows I enjoy Harry Potter, David Haydn, and the old ‘Flashman’ books) and I’m glad that she did. This is a very easy read that the reader is able to pick up and put down really easily. I found myself reading this on the train to work, at the office (when quiet!) and then again walking home from the train station. With characters that are relatable and real, I was able to connect to the story and the urgency of their actions. This is a book that straddles fantasy and adventure and I think it would be appeal to the teenage readership – especially teenage boys – and if the author continues to put out books like this, I think he’ll do very well.
Redemption of the Sorcerer, The Crystalon Saga, Book one (Ralph L. Angelo Jr.)
Crystalon is a sorcerer banished to live in modern earth among normal humans. Stripped of his Godly powers he has to adjust to being a mere mortal man. What he seeks is redemption from his past sins. He makes a few friends although he is leery and does not trust easily.
Soon he finds himself in the middle of a war between good and evil. Will he receive the redemption he seeks? Will he make peace with his past? And finally will he be able to fight the battle?
A fantastic fantasy story, with characters that are likable. Action packed, secrets revealed, with twists and turns. I highly recommend to fantasy fans.
