This book has been a favorite of mine since middle school in the 1990’s. I love the friendship between Clemmy and Marbelard (a disabled young man that Clemmy saves from an abusive father), and the sweet little romance between Clemmy and the Lady Libby (despite Clemmy trying to secure her affection for the king). Kisling does a great job of describing strength of character, loyalty to family/friends, and traits that define true love. Kisling has a poetic style that kept the book interesting and moved the story forward at a satisfying pace. I wish there was a way to bring more attention to vintage books such as this. For me, The Fool’s War was a solid story that was enjoyable to read. I highly recommend.
