This isn't my favorite of the Critters Of The Night series, but when I was a kid, it was still one of the books I grew up on. This is a sillier book, with a less constructed theme, or lesson, but it's a cute thing to read before you say goodnight to your little one. It's a good book to read to a child if they're riled up, or too awake, or throwing a tantrum before getting into bed because it'll lighten the mood.

Personal Reaction: This book was one of my favorites when I was little. I really enjoyed getting to read it again. The flow of the book is catchy and has a good rhythm to it and I enjoy reading it now just as much as I did when I was four or five years old. The illustrations are really colorful which makes reading the book even more entertaining.

Purpose: The purpose of this book is for beginner readers (typically pre-K to first grade depending on their reading level) to read in order to practice learning how to read and to develop their love of literature. The book contains almost all sight words and the other words are either common or easy for young children to practice sounding them out. Two examples of these types of words are "monsters" and "mellow". The lexile level of this book is BR, indicating that it is for beginner readers. The sentences are very short and there are a few repetitive words/phrases, which makes it easier for children to read. Children reading this book, with it's great rhythm and flow that it has, would enjoy reading this and develop their reading skills and love of reading books.
