I love that there is a book on this topic! Sadly, read aloud isn’t done enough in all classrooms, and it is a great way to build knowledge, vocabulary, and oral language…plus it is just so much fun! This books offers a framework to help teachers plan for a read aloud in all subjects and in all grades! What a great way to also build empathy and promote diversity and inclusion. Looking for a whole building PD? Would be a great book for this!
This was a really valuable resource for writing my thesis. I highly recommend this book for any teacher wanting to improve their practice and maximize the instructional value of their read aloud time. Dr. Ness provides lots of resources including planning templates, strategies to make read alouds both explicit and systematic, book lists and tons of research about the benefits of classroom read alouds.
I loved it! Molly gives validation to educators (and others) who know that read alouds are essential to student learning and growth, and she provides support to others who haven't figured that out yet. A great mix of research and practical tips.
This is excellent for parents and teachers to understand why reading aloud is beneficial and has many examples of how to execute it. As a homeschooler, parent, and former Educator in a public school, I think this book is refreshing and thorough.
Great guide for rethinking read-alouds in the classroom. Ness offers a template of sorts to help teachers intentionally use books to expose students to vocabulary, background knowledge, and of course, the joy of reading.
