One might call this of hymnals. Good in the sense that is offers many hymns over the centuries of the church, corporate readings, and alternate tune settings. Bad in the sense that there are way to many hymns that incorporate ways to sing that do not fit congregational singing but more a choir or even "special music". Ugly in the number of hymns that are poor theologically or emotionally. I would not recommend this hymnal when looking for a hymnal to use for congregational singing. On another note the amount of hymns in it makes it hefty for older and younger congregants to hold possibly distracting them from worship.
Yes, this is a good book for worship and Praise. I sing the songs from this book every time in Church now. It would be nice if someone updated one with the newest praise songs that are no. 1 hits for 2007 and still have the old time Gospel songs. I am still looking through them and remembering songs that I haven't sung for a while. As a member of the Southern Baptist we only can sing once a week, so this book alone will last a long time. I always invite people to sing in the congregation and they love it.
