A delight for fairy fanatics--over fifty fabulous designs to enchant cross stitchers everywhere. It has been said that fairies are not seen by the eyes but by the heart. The popular cross stitch designers invited to contribute their designs to this book have used their imagination to capture the qualities of the wee folk in this magical collection of fairy designs, to delight and inspire stitchers of all abilities. Enchanting project ideas range from bags to banners, cards to cushions and pot lids to pictures, with full color charts and step-by-step instructions for making up.
There are fairies of all types in these charts, with samplers, alphabets and designs for months or seasons. Some instructions for different projects as well.
Cross Stitch Fairies has over 50 designs of fairies by 5 designers - Claire Crompton, Maria Diaz, Joan Elliott, Lucie Heaton and Lesley Teare.
Joan Elliott has the first design which is a banner called Garden Fairies - this is a gorgeous design, full of colorful and cute fairies frolicking in the garden with the saying "There are Fairies at the Bottom of our Garden". There are clear instructions to making it up as a banner.
Next up are Birthday Fairies by Maria Diaz. These are gorgeous too, designed for each month of the year and made up as cards.
A large design of a Fairy Princess is next by Lesley Teare. It is pretty but not my style.
Next is a very pretty fairy alphabet by Claire Crompton - these would look absolutely lovely stitched as a name for a girl's room, either as a picture, pillow or trinket box.
Lucie Heaton is the next designer - she has designed a birth sampler, card, photo album and tooth fairy pillow.
Joan Elliott's Fairy Godmother design is up next. I have actually stitched this, as it appeared in an old UK stitching magazine (Quick & Easy Cross Stitch) - I can attest that it is gorgeous! I personlised it by adding my daughter's name and birthdate turning it into a lovely birth sampler (even though I finally finished it when my daughter was 6!).
Next up is Fairy Seasons by Lesley Teare with very pretty designs covering the four seasons finished in different ways.
Lucie Heaton finishes the book with her Fairy Silhouettes - these are very effective looking, done in shades of grey and black.
The charts are in full colour with some symbols and very clear.
I borrowed this from the library and will definitely add to my own library if I can find a reasonable priced copy as it is now out of print.
Basic premise: cross stitch patterns of fairies and fairy kind.
This wasn't the most exciting pattern book I've found, perhaps because I'm not as into fairies as some others, but there are some fun bits and bobs within these pages. There are little motifs that could be added to other pieces and to me, that's the real value.
Simple cross stitch patterns with easy instructions if you happen to be a beginner. This was a Christmas gift and I was pleased with the design options. Fairies for every season, alphabet letters, with notes and details on inspirational projects you can do. Cute and whimsical, I'm sure there are other 'better' books out there, but this one covers everything for me.
While I prefered this book over Cross stitch angels, and there were a few designs that I didn't mind, I've seen other "magical" pattern books that appeal to me more.
