#1 New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery writes heartwarming and humorous novels about the relationships that define women's lives—family, friendship, romance. She's best known for putting nuanced characters into emotionally complex, real-life situations with twists that surprise readers to laughter. Because Susan is passionate about animal welfare, pets play a big role in her books. Beloved by millions of readers worldwide, her books have been translated into 28 languages.

Critics have dubbed Mallery "the new queen of romantic fiction." (Walmart) Booklist says, "Romance novels don't get much better than Mallery's expert blend of emotional nuance, humor, and superb storytelling," and RT Book Reviews puts her "in a class by herself!" It's no wonder that her books have spent more than 200 weeks on the USA Today bestsellers list.

Although Susan majored in Accounting, she never worked as an accountant because she was published straight out of college with two books the same month. Sixteen prolific years and seventy-four books later, she hit the New York Times bestsellers list for the first time with Accidentally Yours in 2008. She made many appearances in the Top 10 before (finally) hitting #1 in 2015 with Thrill Me, the twentieth book in her most popular series, the Fool's Gold romances, and the fourth of five books released that year.

Susan lives in Washington state with her husband, two ragdoll cats, and a small poodle with delusions of grandeur. Her heart for animals has led Susan to become an active supporter of the Seattle Humane Society. Visit Susan online at www.SusanMallery.com.

SM 06 El Millonario del Mes
In bed with the devil

I tried to read this a couple years ago but mostly skimmed it.
I love this trope where the boy turns the girl down for whatever reason only to live to regret it years later. But that just isn't how this one pans out...
I didn't like the h. She comes across as painfully immature. Jack has no remorse for hurting her feelings back then, but at the same time he feels guilty for not being more supportive as her brother had asked him to be. The h actually has a boyfriend (sort of) while she is trying to seduce the H.

Been a while since I read a harly. Not sure if I graduated or am just at the point where I only want to read ones where the emotion doesn't feel formulaic and contrived. I liked her character. He had very little character and his conflicts were trite and I didn't buy them. I sometimes enjoyed their relationship but mostly men. Enjoyed the subromance. Harlequin doesn't usually allow that and I always like it

Neither the characters nor the story line are compelling. In fact it is hard to believe either. I also didn't care for the way the Andrew problem is resolved. It really bothered me. Not my favorite Mallery book.

Meredith and Hunter grew up very wealthy and Meredith was a genius by the age of sixteen, she had several degrees and when Hunter and his best friend came to college, she was able to show them around.
She has had a crush on Jack (her brother's friend) forever and finally on her 17th birthday, she tries to tell him but, he breaks her heart she thinks it is because she is overweight and smart but really he does it because of his friendship with Hunter.
Hunter gets cancer and passes away but makes plans for his six friends to stay at a special house he is going to donate for other cancer patients and of course he manages to find girls for them all.

When Jack goes for his month at the house, he finds Meredith all grown up and very slim and beautiful. She has plans to seduce him and leave him so he can see how it feels but of course it backfires and they end up together.
She is very hurt when she learns that in the ten years since Hunter's death Jack has kept a close watch on her but not contacted her.

Meredith is funny and loving Jack is too serious but, they manage to find a way to be together.

I started reading this book not realizing that it was the 6th book in the series. I think I should have started at book one because it would have given me a better insight into the purpose of the house. I found Meredith a little unreasonable in her demands on Jack considering the time lapse since their 'incident'. Jack on the other hand was a lovely character with real honour and a great protector/brother figure who took over Hunter's role in Meredith's life from a distance. Meredith's friends were great. They reminded me of the cast from The Big Bang Theory. So glad they all worked it out in the end. Now I have to find the other 5 books!

Sexto volume da série Milionário do Mês.

Eu na verdade concordo com a decisão de Jack de recusar Meredith por sua imaturidade - o único erro foi que ele naõ recusou uma segunda vez.

I’m bummed. I’ve read a few of Susan Mallery’s book and absolutely loved them. So much so that I always anticipate picking up another one of her books whenever I can. This is my first category romance by her. It is an older book, a couple years old, but since it’s a Mallery, I anticipated a good read. That didn’t happen, not by a long shot. I just didn’t care for this book all that much. Surprised the hell out of me.

Meri is a genius. Literally. She has one of those brains that just won’t turn off. As a young child and a teenager she was overweight, so that combined with her intellect usually scared the boys off. She adored her big brother Hunter and she’s always loved his best friend Jack. On her seventeenth birthday Jack finds Meri in an emotional state, her brother has just died and now she has no friends but for Jack, but she wants more from him than just friendship. But Jack has always looked at her as Hunter’s baby sister and when she blurts out she wants him, he doesn’t know what else to do but walk away. He then walks away again after Hunter’s funeral and eleven years pass before Meri sees him again.

Hunter’s will stipulates that each of his six best friends must stay a month in the cabin he’s slated to give to a charitable foundation for kids. When it’s Jack’s turn for his month, Meri has wrangled her way into being there on the administrative side of the deal just so she can exact her revenge on Jack for leaving her all those years ago. Up to this point, I was able to live with this book. I felt for Meri, especially those pages when she’d lost her brother and blurted out her love for Jack. It’s when she puts her plan into motion that everything went south in a huge hurry.

She doesn’t mince words at all when she confronts Jack with her revenge. She’s there to seduce him, make him want her, and she tells him flat out that’s what she’s going to do. For eleven years later, Meri acts like a petulant child. Her actions just didn’t go over all that well most of the time, except when she’s actively seducing him and not talking about it. There are moments she acts like the woman she is, but those are few and far between. And I didn’t like the fact that she’s still looking at her grudge through the eyes of a hurt seventeen year old. Her revenge is the same as it was back then, nothing new to reflect her growth over the years. And, of course, it all backfires on her.

Jack is determined not to let Meri get to him because he promised Hunter he’d look out for her. Only thing is, he’s done a half-ass job of that, all done from afar through investigators and whatnot. But he’s just a man and with that sexy body being thrown at him every which way, what man wouldn’t eventually give in? I didn’t blame him one bit. I actually wanted him to turn it all around and show her the fire she’s dealing with. Then there’s the current boyfriend-almost-fiance of Meri’s who shows up missing her. That didn’t sit well with me either. She’s nearly engaged to this guy but is out seducing another man and does have sex with the other man. No, no, no, no!

The only thing that I did like other than Jack is Meri’s brainiac friends. They give some comic relief and, boy, is that needed every now and then. By the time I got to the HEA, I just didn’t care anymore and didn’t think Meri really deserved it. Sigh. Now I need to find a Susan Mallery book I do like to get the taste of this one out of my system.

**MINOR SPOILERS**
This book is last in the Millionaire of the Month series which is written by different authors. It can be read as a standalone although at the end there is a summary of the different relationships that developed during the series. This book is one of the author’s earlier works.
I did not care for the premise of the book. 11 years ago, when Meredith was 17, she asked her brother’s friend, Jack, out of the blue, to have sex with her. He refused and said that he wanted to be her friend. In the present day, Meredith decides to get revenge for his refusal. She wants to lure him into a similar situation and then reject him. For her to nurture revenge in her heart for that long does not speak well of her. Nor does the need for revenge itself. If he had suddenly decided, at 21, to have sex with his brother’s 17-year-old, virgin sister, he would have been a pedophile and lacking in decency. It would have been disloyal to his friend as well. Meredith fails to see any of that. She even tells him, “I like punishing you for it over and over again.” Eventually she realizes that some of her thoughts for revenge covered up her desire to have a relationship with Jack, but it was an unusual way to express it.
The book is also improbable in that Jack is the son of a very rich man but decides to go into the army and becomes a member of the Special Forces. The author has a love for miliary male characters, but this seems unlikely (though possible). He uses his experience to start a successful company that helps deliver goods to dangerous places or protect those working at those places.
Jack’s brother died when they were both children. Then his close friend and Meredith’s brother, Hunter, died. He is understandably reluctant to put his heart on the line and commit to a relationship. Meredith pushes for one as she attempts to get her revenge, which is what is needed for them to move forward (though she is doing so for the wrong reasons).
Meredith and Jack are thrown together as a condition of Meredith’s brother’s will. They have to spend a month together at a beautiful cabin. From the moment, Jack arrives Meredith states that they will be lovers. She does not let this go. It felt stalkerish. She even taps briefly on his bedroom door and comes in with out asking. She waits for him in his bathroom with bubbles and candles. Later, he enters her bedroom without knocking in a quid pro quo that also felt inappropriate.
Meredith pursues this situation with Jack while on hiatus from her boyfriend, Andrew. He does show up in the book and I did not care for a revelation about him at the end of the book. I thought it diminished Meredith for this revelation to occur.
The Point of View (POV) changes between Meredith and Jack.
The author’s characteristic humor was apparent in her dialogue.
In a very nitpicky point, I did not care for the title of this book. It was not descriptive of the story or the characters. It referred to a psychic reading that Meredith received.
I have read several books by this author and will likely continue to read her books. However, I do not recommend this one.

Meredith, at 17, described herself as a fat, ugly, genius freak and she was in love with her brother's best friend, Jack. But as much as he liked her, she was his best friend's little sister and still too young and he handled the rejection badly. Shortly after the brother died and Jack disappears. Meredith has never forgiven Jack's rejection nor his disappearance. So she arranges her revenge whereby she seduces him while they're trapped in a house together and then walks out on him, leaving him broken hearted. Things go according to plan until she realizes that she never really wanted revenge - she only wanted Jack to love her.

I don't typically despise heroines as much as I despised this one. First of all it irritates me that she alters her appearance in order to manage some semblance of self-esteem and also to get the hero to like her. It would have been so much more satisfying if she was able to accept the way she looked and even more so to see the hero fall in love with her as she was. But appearance aside, this heroine had a personality that grated on my nerves. I'm cool with heroines that are free about sex, promiscuous even - but I'm not cool with a heroine that uses sex to manipulate (nor do I particularly like heroes who do it). Normally, a woman in romance who uses sex to manipulate like this is usually a villain of some sort. Especially since this one was so overt about it. In addition, the heroine, despite 11 years and a genius brain, never matured past the age of 17 apparently. Her whole attitude is that the hero was mean to her so he deserves all the revenge she can dish out...she actually says that exact thing IIRC. She's never able to see the fact that the hero was 21 when all of this happened and that her behavior is not acceptable for a 28 year old woman. Finally, I hated that this woman supposedly had a steady boyfriend, who she knew wanted to marry her, who she then cheated on in order to get her revenge on Jack. Ugh!

Now I didn't like the hero much either, given his cowardice and neglect of the heroine, but in comparison to Meredith, he was a breath of fresh air. I've read MUCH better stories by this particular author.

Jack must spend a month in a mansion to carry out his deceased friends wish. Said friend's little sister arrives and sets out to make Jack pay for turning his back on her in college. It was an ok book. To much background on rocket science nerds. Could've covered some more background on the main characters. I'm more familiar with Susan Mallery's current books and can say that they've definitely improved.

I'm sorry to say but this book never intrigued me. It's very boring from the beginning till the end. Why I've listed a 3 * is for the benefit of the last chapter. When Hunter had visited his friends. His thoughts on his friends finding their love ones. So I plus a * for that. Other than that, I'm sorry to say I'd really like to give 2*. I'd like the other stories from this author. But dunno why this book is a letdown. Maybe some will find it intriguing but not for me. Good luck!

I only planned to read this book in the series because there was an excerpt in another of my books, but after reading the last chapter... I had to go searching for all of them.. The poignancy of hunter sigh.. sounds lame but when you lose someone that means everything all you wish for is one more time and when you cant have that you wish that their close enough that you can feel them, the last chapter may have been soppy but I loved it!!

This book was really good. I'm glad i picked it up. Jack and Meri were a fun couple to read about. Wished I had realized before that it was part of a series. The story line didn't rely on the previous books to be understood. I just think the stories of the other couples would have been fun to read as well.

Enjoyed 5 of the 6 books in this series - as I've had a hard time finding #3

But it was a really cute book - enjoyed the banter between those two. Do wish that the ending had been a little more in depth about each couple and there time together!

While I will admit that I enjoyed the story I have to say that the characters are a little extreme for me to really like. This story was truly a fairy tale.

It was just ok. I loved the premise and usually Susan' s book -- it just didn't have the same flair. Although it had the potential to be really something-- with the brainaic & the man

Library e-book. Glad I didn't pay for it!

I have heard great things about Susan Mallery but so far her two category romances did not impress.

This is a series of 6 books by different authors but the theme common is that Hunter Palmer, a rich young man who was the leader of the Seven Samurais back in college days, died of melanoma at maybe age 22? After his funeral everyone drifted apart. However in Hunter's will he's had a house built on Lake Tahoe which was to be donated to Hunter's Landing for the sick to use. USD20 million would also be donated (the Palmers are RICH) provided each of the remaining six samurai stay in the house for a designated month. Apparently the house is magical because from what I gather each of the samurai found true love during their stay 😂

I did not read the rest of the series and the great epilogue/ last few pages made me curious about the other stories.

Anyway our couple: Meredith/Meri and Jack Howington III just wow!

I liked Jack more tham Meri though she could be cute and sweet. But I hate that she's had to gave plastic surgeries to gain confidence and yet still calls herself and her team of geniuses freaks. Her team was nife especially Colin and Bettina her best friend was wise and great.

I don't like the fact that she had an almost fiancé yet for the better of six months before she was plotting to seduce Hack for revenge. How she went about it was tacky in my opinion...

Added to this I truly hate that Jack paid off the con man...They are very rich I know (Jack and Meredith-Meri was worth USD 1 BILLION and her father was still alive!) but for nothing the con man got USD 5mil?!?! Obscene!

I like that Jack got over his stupidity fast and admitted he loved Meri quickly. 11 years have been wasted come on!

Even Hunter was rolling his eyes at the end, by asking Jack to look after Meri he's asking Jack to love her well! Instead all these years Jack felt guilty for 'cause Hunter's death' and he felt Hunter's asking him to look after Meri meant as a big brother and not lover. Sigh men...
