Margo--It was a name the townspeople whispered softly, as if the sinister old woman could hear them from her crumbling gray mansion on the hill. She was an ancient crone who should have long since turned to dust. But somehow -- in the right light -- she looked no more than thirty years old. She was rumored to have congress with demons, a deal with the devil, and an irrational hatred of her beautiful twin niece and nephew.

Just barely 3 stars. It's ok for what it is, typical 80's trash horror with themes of devil worship, demons, undead, family secrets, spooky old house, small town, etc. Monkshood, which is a rare blue flower is mentioned quite a bit. Some graphic descriptions of satanic mass, and cannibalism.
I like that this book throws typical horror conventions out the window and enters usually avoided territory. The writing is subtle, so that it builds to a crescendo and leaves you wanting more. This is not at all formula writing!
This book is one of my favorite of all times. It talks about love and demonology in the most profound way--I cried and cried in the end. You won't put it down.
