AN UNMARRIED LORD. A MARRIAGEABLE LADY. Miss Amelia Mapleton felt certain that Mr. Anthony Talbot possessed a hidden flaw. If all the doting mothers of the haut ton called him a catch, why had no one caught him? He was certainly the handsomest man in Almack's ballroom and, she would soon discover, the most elusive.
IS IT A MATCH...OR A BATTLE OF HEARTS? Anthony was captivated by this minx with the sparkling eyes and lips that simply asked to be kissed. Unfortunately, he had other plans for his London visit--and they didn't include getting leg-shackled.
Now his friends were in a muddle and of a like mind: they were determined to lead this lonely lord to wedded bliss. But they didn't know of Anthony's mysterious mission in town...a mission that could ensnare an unwitting Miss Amelia in a tender trap of candlelight, danger, and thrilling romance!
Since the publication of Amelia's Intrigue in 1995, Judith A. Lansdowne's Regency romances have received critical acclaim, garnered awards and entertained thousands of romance readers. Ms. Lansdowne began writing full-time in 1992, but it was only after her daughter introduced her to Regency romances that her work was published.
She grew up in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Following graduation from St. Joseph High School, she attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, then spent several years touring the country as an actress and puppeteer with Nicolo Marionettes and the Sid and Marty Krofft organization.
Tiring of the constant travel, she returned to Kenosha to attend the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, where she met her husband Al, a retired submariner, and graduated with highest distinction. Following graduation she worked variously as a journalist, instructional television writer/producer, textbook production editor, college instructor, and television news videographer. When her husband finally got a real job, she settled down to writing full time, producing a horror novel, a vampire novel and a Restoration historical novel, all still unpublished, before finally "making it" with Regency romance. When her husband retired (he didn't like the real job) they moved to the shores of Lake Guntersville, Alabama, where she is pursuing a career in fishing and he moves dirt around the yard. They write when the weather is bad.
What a unique book! Admitted cheesy in many ways it was still an enjoyable read. The dialog was meant to be accurate to the Regency era with real characters such as Beau Brummell. Part mystery/spy novel, part romance, part family drama - it will not be the last I read my this author.
too much going on. its almost a spoof of regency romances. Mistaken identities, a "hidden" Earl, secret work for the crown, cross-dressing, assassinations, neck-or-nothing riders, animal-whispers....it had everything except witty dialogue, which is what I read regency romances for
I just have to say that Geordie totally takes this book/ he is what makes it so lovely. What a genuine character and he just pulls everyone together. I love how smart he is with some parts of life, so he is still witty and can think ahead and yet still has problems and is like a child in some areas.. and the love that Tony has for him is wonderful. The ending and the anger bit is a little off, and I felt like it just didn’t fit with Tony’s character at all- but I enjoyed the story and the characters. It had a ton of editing needs throughout- which made it hard at times to understand the sentences. It was written in a G Heyer style which I enjoy. I will most likely read more of this authors books
Charming story with a host of entertaining characters. Original plot. No tired tropes. Published in 1995 so very tame. Thoroughly enjoyed it and definitely recommend.
Almost immediately loses focus on any sort of romance that’s supposed to be happening between the H/h and derails into what becomes The Geordie (and Max) Show.
I went through a time when I was reading a lot of Regency romances. I'd read Heyer and Darcy and expanded out to currently published authors. This was in the '90s. One author who I really enjoyed was Judith Lansdowne. I still have her books and had hunted down some that were out of print then. I do almost all my reading via ebooks now and have been checking for a while. I am so pleased to find over of her books had been released as an ebook!
It contains charming characters across 3 generations, a few love matches, and even some skulduggery.
It looks like the text was scanned and there are a lot of grammar errors, typos, and so on.
I hope that the publisher will release more of her books.
