I've read a couple books on PCOS, and this one has much more information about the biological and medical reasons behind PCOS, how to seek help and where to seek it from, how to deal with symptoms, and gives a much more expert level of advice compared to a couple of the other books that I've read. It is a longer book, but it is structured well and it's easy to find the chapters and sections you are most interested in, or that are the most applicable to you. While other books might offer recipes and food suggestions, I found this book was more knowledge-based. Knowing that I am going to have to deal with this syndrome for the rest of my life, having the knowledge makes me feel like I have a little bit more control of a syndrome that can make your entire body feel like it is out of your control. While there are shorter, lighter books out there, I believe sitting down and taking the time is worth it if you really want to understand what's going on in your body and what you can do. It made me feel that much more empowered in what can at times feel like a hopeless situation. This one of the best PCOS books that I've come across, and I can't recommend it enough.

So when my Doc asked me how much internet research I did after she diagnosed me with PCOS, she about fell on the floor when I told her I read a book instead. Working at a library will do that to you, make you check the books first, then the web. If you are looking for a "medical" explanation of what PCOS is, with all the hormonal, metabolic and technical detail, than this book is a good resource. I certainly gained understanding about myself after reading this book. Even so, this book is now over 10 years old, and newer significant research is available, so I recommend reading additional books as well. However this book is still very comprehensive and informational. If you are looking for emotional support to guide you through the difficulties and emotional aspects of facing this syndrome, you might want to look elsewhere.

In my opinion this is the best possible book you can read if you have PCOS. It tells you EVERYTHING, including which blood tests to have and ALL of the conventional treatment options. There is also a little bit of discussion of alternative treatments, but that is very superficial. There are some alternatives worth considering, but for that you will have to look elsewhere. That said, if you want to know everything your doctor might not even know about PCOS, this is the book to read.

this book can get pretty technical and has a LOT of details. but it's really comprehensive for people w/ pcos. it's more for someone who wants the detailed medical and biological information about pcos.

Very good explanation of PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) side effects, treatment plans and fertility treatments. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Thatcher, who is a wonderful man and well known embryologist, and he gave me good counsel. This was my textbook for quite a while.

I read this to get continuing education credits. While it has all the details you need to know, it is painfully hard to read. Too many specifics and not enough practical information.
