Narrates, in Spanish, the romance, adventure, and conflict that ensue when English settlers in the New World come into contact with the Indian people who live in what is now Virginia. Original.
The Disney film of Pocahontas was one of my favourites from when I was young. Released when I was 11, it inspired me to dye my hair black as soon as I was old enough, and I have continued to dye it black since then.
Obviously, the Disney film is very much a Disney-fied version of the story - many youngsters would be shocked to learn the real story of Pocahontas. I know the basics of her real life, and long to visit the monument to her in England. I have only one other biographical book, written by her descendant, in my collection.
This is a 79 page junior novelization, written by Gina Ingoglia, and is intended to be read to wide eyed children at bedtime, rather than an adult wiling away an hour or so during a quiet shift. There's also 8 pages of colour photos included, of shots from the film itself. The story is a very basic retelling of the Disney film, which feels very rushed towards the end, thanks to the 79 page count.
While most Disney films are littered with songs, thankfully the author doesn't try to shoehorn in awkward sounding lines from the songs themselves. This does shorten the story a bit, I just wish the Disney authors were allowed to flesh out the stories a little more, but I suppose that's why they're called "junior" novelizations.
I'm sure it will entertain the kiddies for a couple of nights, if you stretch it out to one or two chapters a night before bed.
