Swim Polar Bear, Swim!

Rate this book
Polar Star is a smart and brave little polar bear who makes his mom feel proud of him. But when it's time for him to learn how to swim, Polar Star has problems. He flaps and flounders and thinks he might drown. He is disappointed in himself, and he senses that Mom is a little disappointed too. But one day she gives him a hug and says: "It doesn't matter if you never learn to swim. I shall love you to the end of the ocean!" And that turns out to be the day when Polar Star finally learns to swim! Here's a warm-hearted, beautifully illustrated story, that small children will instinctively relate to.

Swim Polar Bear Swim by Joan Stimson and Illustrated by Meg Rutherford.

It's a great way to introduce several topics to children. What is the animal Polar Bear?
What is swimming? How to master and defeat a fear for child.

Story starts with Polar Star as cub and as grows and learns by asking questions. Which I think every child can relate with because that's how they learn. I enjoy most about the story is how Polar Star is afraid of water and learning to swim. How many of us have been there before?
I enjoy that Mom Polar Moon stays calm and keeps encouraging Polar Star to try. This really relates to a lot of children fear of swimming or any fear. My favorite part is when Polar Star ask Polar Moon "will you still love me if I don't learn to swim?" By not giving up Polar Star learns to swim and a great moral!

Swim Polar Bear, Swim is a very good childrens book that describes the life of a polar bear growing and his mother is guiding him through life showing him how to do things and how to survive. This book is very informational and has great facts about arctic animals. It also describes a loving mother-child relationship.

A great book to help anyone who may be struggling with something. The polar bear is normally great at everything until it comes time to swim. He struggles a lot. But he overcomes that and becomes a great swimmer. The students could write a journal entry when they struggled learning something but overcame it and how they felt. A great emotions lesson. The setting is outside where the polar bear is trying to swim.
