Roland de Candé was a French musicologist and prolific author of reference works on music. Co-founder and director of the Semaines musicales internationales de Royaumont, he played a key role in promoting musical culture. His extensive bibliography includes biographies of Vivaldi, Bach, and Liszt, as well as influential dictionaries and critical studies such as Dictionnaire des musiciens and Histoire universelle de la musique. Beyond writing, he worked as a sound editor, composer of electro-acoustic music, and researcher in cinematic sound. A Commandeur of the Arts and Letters, he was deeply engaged in France’s literary and musical institutions.
