About the author

Dr. Keown is an Alumni Distinguished Professor and the R. B. Pamplin Professor of Finance, currently teaching Introduction to Finance to undergraduate students. In 201, he was named to be one of 10 Alumni Distinguished Professors on campus and was the first and only Alumni Distinguished Professor in the Pamplin College of Business. He is a member of the Academy of Teaching Excellence. He has won several excellence awards at Virginia Tech including the Certificate of Teaching Excellence (5 times), W.E. Wine Award for Teaching Excellence and the Alumni Teaching Excellence Award. He received the first Pylon Away for Honor from the Student Government Association and has been honored by the State of Virginia by receiving the Outstanding Faculty Award for Excellence in Research, Teaching and Service.

This was a great text book, geared toward young college students. Each chapter has an entertaining story about how someone from popular culture has screwed up or done well financially. I really looked forward to those. I think high schools and universities ought to require, or at least offer personal finance classes, and this text book is a well rounded one, covering ideas including budgeting, investment and retirement planning, debt management, and estate planning.

I recently took a personal finance class and this was the textbook we used. It is very easy to understand and full of up-to-date information for those who want to make sure they know the basics of managing their money matters.

This is just a textbook from my husband's Personal Finance class, so it's nothing special or unique. I just wanted to be more informed on personal finance matters. I skimmed a lot of stuff that I already knew, but I also learned a lot! It's nice to study a text book again!
