Rate this book

Every time a Daltry turns twenty years old, they are presented with a task by their grandmother. These challenges are intended to teach them about character--but they often learn quite a bit about lone along the way...

C. J. Daltry was the loverboy of the family--until his fiancee walked out on him. From that moment on, he swore he'd forget about romance and flowers. But then, on C J.'s twentieth birthday, his grandmother asked him to do the impossible. To play matchmaker for lonely Lizzie Colepepper! C. J. couldn't imagine a more difficult task. Not because Lizzie wasn't sweet or young or pretty. She was all of those things--and more. But the scar on Lizzie's cheek made her shy away from the prospect of gentlemen callers. C. J. knew matchmaking wouldn't be easy. What he didn't know was that falling in lone was as simple as reaching out with his own wounded heart...

#3 in the Sons and Daughters series about the Texas Daltry family

In book 3, second son C.J. (real name Cupid) is given the labor of finding a husband for a local girl but, under no circumstance, is he (the local lover boy) to get involved with her. Another predictable yet sweet story.

This is the third installment of the "Sons and Daughters" series. Each book is by a different author and each story is about another of the six children of a most unusual, wealthy family.

Cupid (aka CJ) has turned 20 on February 14th and is waiting for his task from his grandmother, Minerva. He has 1 year to finish his "labor" and if successful, he will win a major prize. (When Hercules, the first 20-year-old in the series, "THE LADIES' MAN," finished his "labor" his grandmother built a library in the town and named it the Hercules Daltry Memorial Library.)

CJ accidentally overhears his grandmother tell the family attorney that CJ's prize will be the deed to the huge family ranch - something CJ has dreamed of all his life.

However, his labor is to find a husband for Lizzie Colepepper. The back-story to this tale is very interesting and explains why it will be a difficult task, in spite of the fact that Lizzie is pretty, young and sweet.

I don't want to ruin the story by giving more away. At 261 pages, this is a quick read. Cupid's story was the one I had been most anticipating since reading the first book. FYI: CJ is the county's lover-boy. "No woman under 50 is immune to CJ!"

The story shows that Cupid has a heart (no pun intended); he goes back to his grandmother for a new "labor" twice because he is afraid his efforts will hurt Lizzie.

I enjoyed the story. It is not heavy reading; it is light escapism!

What happens when you are obsessed with Greek mythology? You name your children and grandchildren after the them. Hercules, Cupid, Atlas, Atlanta, Venus, and Persephone all get a character-building task for their 20th birthday, to be completed in 1 year. The task? Something that is SO far from what each one could possibly imagine. The result? The each realize they weren't named after these gods for no reason.

Great 3rd book in the Sons and Daughter series. Unique idea for this series. If you can find all the books in this series, its a keeper. They are out of print and hard to find
