This book is simply excellent. Wilhoit expertly lays the foundations of a Christian philosophy of education.
One thing that sets this book apart from many others of the genre is that Wolhoit is both aware of the Bible and education research. Many others are only aware of the Bible, and are ignorant of education research. Some even seem afraid to tell you what is in the Bible. Wilhoit avoids these traps.
He helps show you what the Bible says about education so you don’t have to invent your own philosophy from scratch, after all, why reinvent the wheel? He then pairs this biblical literacy with education research.
I can’t recommend this book highly enough. It is the best book on Christian philosophy of education that I have read.

This book should be considered a must read for all who aspire to teach in the Christian ministry. It highlights and considers the functions of Christian education, and points out the main goals. In addition, the author writes clearly and in a way which is engaging.

For me, one clear thing I took away was the recognition that the transmission of content in itself is such a small part of the teaching minitstry, and that other areas like showing relevance, imparting a sense of ownership, prayer, and the work of the Holy Spirit, are all vital if the end goal of transformation and maturity in christ is to be realized.

The only problem with this book is that its out of print. Its print on demand, which means its really really REALLY expensive! cost me $40 (singapore dollars) for this little paperback :( But content wise, its a great read, and I've no regrets there.
