Kathie writes at night with country tunes playing from a local radio station while the rest of the world sleeps. It's the quiet time of the night that inspires her to craft her stories with a unique style of sensuality, interspersed with a little humor.
Kathie has been a Romance Writers of America Golden Heart finalist twice. Her June 2001 release, His Baby Surprise, received the National Readers' Choice Award for Best Short Contemporary Romance of 2001. All of her books have been listed on the Waldenbooks Category Romance Bestsellers list.

This was a very good book and I enjoyed it a great deal.
Kaylee Simpson has been in love with Colt Wakefield from the day she met him when she was ten-years-old. He was her now-deceased brother's best friend. They were both bull riders and three years ago her brother didn't survive the trauma caused by the bull. The night of his funeral Colt didn't want to leave Kaylee alone since she had no other family but comfort led to intimacy and he felt horrifically guilty. (Shame on him. He knew she cared for him and she thought that FINALLY they would be together.) She had been an innocent and the night meant the world to her...until she woke up and found him gone without a word or a note. It totally crushed her heart and when she found out she was pregnant she really didn't think he would want the child since it seemed to her that he took her virginity and walked away. She was certain that was a sign that he had only wanted one thing.
Colt was basically a good guy but I have to say there were times I didn't hold him in very high regard and was not a very big Colt fan. Kaylee was left alone in the world after her brother's death and had a very difficult time with the ranch and finances. Her brother had taken out loans against the property and she was left having to sell. Here she is pregnant and has to sell the only home she's ever known because the finances, unbeknownst to her, were in very bad shape. It was so unlike Colt to abandon her without a single call in those three years that he disappeared. He had not used protection but didn't check on her to make sure she wasn't pregnant. I lost respect for his character after this was revealed and felt he never really redeemed himself for what he did. He came close to destroying her!
I recommend this book and although there was angst there wasn't any other man/other woman drama. Kaylee wasn't with anyone since the night she was with Colt. It was never clarified whether Colt was with other women in those three years but I'm sure, as a rodeo/cowboy, he most likely got around. It irked me that he had the gall to question Kaylee if she had been with anyone else since him, yet, he didn't share his own answer to that question. As far as Colt...I would imagine he had access to all the buckle bunnies he could handle but thought it was very unfair that he questions her but makes no comment about himself.
I liked Colt and I liked Kaylee, although I'll probably never get my head around the whole secret baby thing. Seriously, how all these Harlequin women want to keep secrets like that, it's beyond me. And it's so wrong and unfair.
Anyway, as far as secret baby stories go, this one is decent. Liked the side characters as well (who I later learned are from books before this one is set). This one is my favorite of the series though. Even with the secret baby. Maybe because she was a toddler and not a baby. Who knows?
His Profile: Intrepid, impassioned and irresistible
His Soft Spot: His newly discovered daughter
All it took was one glance at the toddler in Kaylee Simpson's arms for Colt to know the two-year-old was his. Duty demanded that he do right by mother and child so he swept them off to his ranch to set up house. Trouble was, spending day and night in such close proximity with beautiful Kaylee made the rodeo heartthrob realize that she still stoked his passion and commandeered his dreams. Although Kaylee resisted her attraction to him with all her might, he knew he'd do almost anything to win her trust and claim her as his own, once and for all!
You cannot go wrong with rodeo cowboys and the life on the road. You have to love what you do to make a name for yourself to stay at the top of the circuit. With the loss of a brother and best friend both Kaylee and Colt deal with it and come out in the end are great together. Well written and perfectly paced pulling you in from the start.
terzo di 3 libri che raccontano la storia di 3 fratelli proprietari di un ranch, tutta la serie è carina e spensierata, per chi ama i cowboy è da non perdere!
Kaylee and Colt consoled each other after the death of her brother. Colt left the next day and never looked back. Three years later he runs into her after getting injured at after a bull riding accident. A month later he looks her up and finds his daughter.
