"Time, time, what is time?" In a world of Tamers and lies, the wild Gypsy Moon has been forbidden for as long as she can remember. Desperate to break free and learn the truth of who she is, she answers the call of the Gypsy Moon and falls under its spell. She awakes in a strange new land unlike anything she has ever known, yet finds it to be oddly familiar. When the Crows steal the mysterious note in her pocket-a note that may hold all of the answers that she seeks-she is led down many wild paths through the Land of Thee in a mysterious game of chase. Every wild step along her journey is fraught with adventure and tribulations, leading her on a twisting path of self-discovery. With the help of the clever creatures within the Land of Thee, she must find the Crows and retrieve her note. But the Vultures and Tamers may be lurking not far behind in search of her. She must discover her own truth if she is ever truly to be free of them. Or risk being tamed forever.
Read this book for the feeling it will evoke. Each word I read was fed directly to my inner child who is always hungry for creativity and play. UTGM will plant a seed deep within your soul that will be nurtured by your authentic self — growing each time you return to The Land of Thee. Allow yourself to get lost with Her and explore each nook and cranny within the wild wild Wild. You won’t want to come back to reality!
"Cheers," the Gypsy pulled the girl from her thoughts, "to The Land of Thee, perhaps it is the land of dreams and schemes and wild, wild things.' Thank you @author.missy.miller for letting me read an ARC of your debut novel, Under the Gypsy Moon! I had such a fun time reading this book. It's full of whimsy, lore, beautiful prose. I was captivated by the Land of Thee. There was magic at every turn and Miller's unique voice and writing was a refreshing surprise. We follow our Butterfly through the Land of Thee as she journeys to find who she is. Or rather, who she was. I very much enjoyed this venture, it is a beam of sunshine on a rainy day. Read if you like... •Whimsical tales of self discover * Magical forests and magical creatures Lyrical prose- many times this read like poetry (in the best way) * A hint of an Alice in Wonderland vibe S
For fans of Alice in Wonderland, Wizard of Oz, and other strange and wild stories.
You will not find romance or smut or spice here. You will not find a brooding, dark, morally gray love interest. You won’t even find a FMC with a name!
What you will find is an atmospheric fairy tale about self discovery as a character simply known as “The Girl” encounters trials and tribulations to discover who she is.
This book is a great bedtime story for children and maybe even young teenagers as the go through a transition in life. Perhaps even adults who are feeling lost and lacking guidance and direction.
I enjoyed this book despite the fact that it wasn’t my typical read. Some parts were a little slow for me, but I could see the book being magical for a different audience. It has some incredible lines and incredible insight. It’s very visual, focusing a lot on atmosphere and whimsy. If you are a visual reader, this book would be a great for you.
Looking forward to seeing what this author brings out next.
“ ‘YEE-YEE-YEEW! I am wild!’ she screamed into the night. She wanted to be heard. She wanted to scream so loud that the Tamers would hear, and they would know that they could never tame her again.”
~ UNDER THE GYPSY MOON Missy Miller
Oh, what a tale! A poetic, richly allegorical journey through the wild, wild jungle into the Land of Thee. This book reads like a fable of old, with shades of Alice in Wonderland. The illustrations are magical, and the characters unforgettable. How I long to swim with the Babes, eat pie with the whimsical, rhyming Gypsy of the Night, or rest awhile beside sturdy, honest Coyote! This story speaks powerfully about finding yourself in a world where humans have been broken and tamed. Truly a book to cherish, and read over and over again.
This magical story with wisdom woven through the pages, was a joy to read!
“Everything-that includes me and you, is made from light. So we, too, make the light. Always where it’s most needed.”
"She grabbed her head, planting her sparkling palms on each side of her marble-less mind. 'My marbles! I lost my marbles!' Laughter and tears flooded over her. Finally, she was free."
In this story, a lost girl discovers who she is and what is most important about really living a full life. Poetic and beautiful, each character has a purpose with wisdom to share. My personal favorite is the Cat Lady;) Uplifting, clean, and packed with insight, Under the Gyspy Moon was thoroughly enjoyable to read! I will remember it always!
Find yourself riding astride a huge, gentle coyote; eating fruit pie with your hands; and being swept into a sea of stars as you are cradled by a sliver of the Gypsy Moon.
You will be quickly caught up in the lyrical adventures of "The Girl" as she finds her way and loses her marbles (in a good way!) in The Land of Thee. With mystical, magical companions at every turn, her journey opens her mind and frees her spirit.
The voice of author Missy Miller is reminiscent of C.S. Lewis and Lewis Carroll. Her beautiful illustrations add to the whimsy of this story.
The only reason for less than five stars is the typos. Don't let them distract you from this beautiful tale!
This book was beautiful- 4.5 stars. It felt more like reading poetry than a book because the prose and storytelling was so unique.
The messages and themes are very well done - slow down, be present, trust the journey... It actually helped me personally as I went to manage my own anxiety and stress. By the end I was annotating because there were lines I just had to highlight so I could find them later.
The author is a wonderful person and her heart is poured out on these pages! Thank you Missy for this amazing book!!
Under The Gypsy Moon was a whimsical journey that made you feel like you were tucked into bed, being read a bedtime story as you drifted off to sleep. The writing is poetry. It's beautiful. The story hints at Alice in Wonderland, but I can honestly say I've never read another book like this. It's cheeky and sweet, and the author has a wonderful way with words.
Thank you so much to the author for sending me a copy. It was a joy to read.
A whimsical tale of self discovery reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland. Full of vivid descriptions and fantastical characters. Pacing was a little slow and the ending predictable, but still a lovely story.
Oh, but this book! Miller is a poet and a storyteller. I was captivated from the very first page and could not put it down. I needed the magic and the lyricism and the beautiful journey to self discovery more than I knew. Adding this to my all-time-favourites shelf. I can’t wait to read more from this brilliant author!
