UPDATE 3/8/2023:

I originally read an ebook version of this, but I now own it and can officially add it to the Pooh Project listing.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

Rabbit is too busy to play the Easter Bunny this year, so the Pooh friends each try on his Easter Bunny costume to disastrous but amusing results. Finally, Pooh stumbles upon the best and friendliest solution and saves the Easter party.

This is another example of Disney recycling. I was reading the 2003 Winnie the Pooh book titled The Easter Bear? when I noticed a statement in the indicia: "Originally published in slightly different form as The Very Best Easter Bunny by Golden Books Publishing Company, Inc., in 1997." I was able to track this version down on the Internet Archive and do a page-by-page comparison. For The Easter Bear? sentences have been added, expanded, or reordered throughout by the original author or some uncredited editor, and there are some word choice changes. The pictures are the same in both versions though. I suppose there is a case for combining the two books as different editions of the same work, but I prefer them separate.

First sentences of The Very Best Easter Bunny:
Early one Easter, as Pooh and his friends were decorating eggs, Rabbit hurried over.
"Sorry, but I can't play the Easter Bunny this year," he announced. "I have to plant my garden. Here, Pooh. You do it."

First sentences of The Easter Bear?:

"Sorry, but I can't play the Easter Bunny this year. I have to plant my garden," he said, holding a bunny costume. "Here, Pooh. You do it."

(My Pooh Project: I love Winnie the Pooh, and so does my wife. Having a daughter gave us a chance to indoctrinate her into the cult by buying and reading her every Pooh book we came across. How many is that? I’m going to count them this year by reading and reviewing one every day and seeing which month I finally run out. Track my progress here:

I found this book last year and couldn't pass up buying Pooh because young or old its Pooh one of the best bears ever.

Pooh and his friends have an Easter egg hunt every year & Rabbit dresses up in the costume, but this year he can't he says because he's too busy. He needs to get his garden planted.

The friends take turns trying on the costume of the bunny or holding it up. Pooh & Tigger tried, but neither could pull it off. The others were too big or the wrong shape or too small.

Once Pooh came up with an idea they went and helped Rabbit plant his garden so they could have their fun Easter day.

Friends helping will always get the job done quicker and have time to do more fun things.

One of the few stories where Rabbit isn't miserly and grumpy and the whole gang is present, problem solving and celebrating Easter with an Easter egg hunt. My 2-year-old loves it.

Pooh couldn't do it, and everybody can't wear. They [spoiler alert] helped Rabbit, the only person who could play the Easter Bunny.

A cute little book that really highlights that not everyone is great at the same thing.

This Pooh book is about Easter and helping out to get a job done. I thought it was super cute the way Pooh looked in the costume. I also like how the entire crew celebrated Easter together having fun with eggs and everything. The way they helped Rabbit out so he could play the bunny was a great lesson because sometimes you need to help a friend out for them to play or hang out with you. It would be a good story to read around Easter with the kiddos at your school.

This is a great way to teach the holiday Easter especially if it is just the basics. This book is great for teaching Easter because it leaves the religious aspects out. It would be good for teaching sequences. After reading you can play a game with students asking the order that the characters tried on the out fit.
