Living Love helps you better relate to yourself and the world around you, as well as to access the unitary wholeness of being, leading to greater happiness, mental balance, and spiritual depth.
This book extends far beyond yogic practice on the mat, spreading mindfulness and awareness from yoga to the rest of your life. It advises on how to handle negative thought patterns and energy and suggests things to do to gradually transform your life or tap into energetic new perspectives.
It is a poetic and profoundly moving book, with deep spiritual and psychological insight. Delving into the first two limbs of the eight-fold path of yoga, given in Patanjali’s classic Yoga Sutras, Living Love is a spiritual guidebook that can bring these foundational practices of yoga alive in your life, helping you to:
Live in integrity Have compassion for yourself and others Heal emotional wounds, sadness, and anxiety Develop habits and behaviors that will support your well-being Lead a value-based life for spiritual awakening and self-realization. Practical exercises are included at the end of the book to help you put it all into action.
The practices of Yama and Niyama are yoga’s method for purifying our minds by changing our attitudes and behaviors to allow more subtle spiritual awareness to awaken within us. We are constantly bombarded in life by various experiences that can be disruptive. Learning to cope with life’s difficulties and live in equanimity, deepening our spiritual connection is the foundation of yoga. There is nothing in yoga more essential than these practices.

Living Love The Yoga of Yama & Niyama was recommended by someone at my Yoga Shala. The first time I read was a year ago, at that time I wasn’t on Goodreads to review. I will read this many more times in the years to come. This is a book that every time you read you will come away with more understanding. I highly recommend this book.
Living Love, the Yoga of Yama and Niyama is a deep and wide meaningful book that is very personal to the author herself. She describes very beautifully her enchanting experience of life.
The author dedicates the book to her Baba Sri Anandamurti Baba and the subject matter is drawn from oral talks which come through from her Baba itself, her guru and spiritual source. In the preface part of the book, Nolan writes about her spiritual guru very beautifully with utmost conscience and observance. She narrates how the spiritual presence influenced her as a child and later.
The book is written in eight different chapters subdivided into many. The narration is moderately paced, and the narratives are very strong and engaging in nature. The readers can certainly feel a connection with the description and would be strongly motivated by the same.
Through a lot of personal realizations, insights, and knowledge, Nolan very skilfully connects with the deep and acute wisdom of the inner being.
Living Love is exceptionally well-written and very helpful on many levels. The author is a gentle coach, and encourages us to live more harmoniously within ourselves and in the world around us. "To change this we need to bring attention to our habits, and then begin consciously cultivating new ones that we want to have." The glossary of Sanskrit is helpful, as is the last chapter, entitled The Work; each practice is listed along with self-assessment questions e.g.:" Have my thoughts or actions injured anyone today?" "Have I taken anything today that belongs to another?" "Have I noticed the needs of others today?" As a physical therapist, and author of Your Body Book Guide to Better Body Motion with Less Pain, I am passionate about helping others to successfully manage their health. This includes our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. This book is a great tool for our own health, that of others, and for our world!
For anyone interested in the interconnectivity of yoga with Yama and Niyama spirituality, Maetreyii Ma Nolan’s, Living Love: The Yoga of Nama and Niyama is a perfect read. Providing a very detailed and descriptive explanation of this genre of spirituality, the book covers many aspects and situations one might encounter and how to confront them in light of the principal aspects taught in the book. As such it seems as much a self help book as a sort of catechism of Yama and Niyama, and is a good source of information for anyone interested in learning more about them. I found the book to be an easy read, although at times it is a bit heavy on symbolism and can be a bit difficult to get through. Overall though, this doesn’t take away from the well presented information contained in the book, and I feel it is a good read for anyone interested in the topic.
As a yoga enthusiast, as soon as I found this book I decided to read it. It is a great manual which portrays a profound spiritual perspective, and that allows readers to understand and acquire the basic techniques and get access to the world of the Yama and Niyama. The ultimate goal is to incorporate these practices to improve our everyday life. I liked the layout of the book and the way in which the information is organized. At the end of the book, there is a glossary and a guide with exercises that facilitate the reading and interpretation of the concepts. I recommend this read to all those who are interested in the fascinating world of Yoga, no matter if they are beginners or have already some knowledge of this practice. It helped me a lot.
This book is a great gift no matter the situation, but since the pandemic, the economic crisis and really everything that is going on around the globe, life can get a little harsh sometimes. One of the things that humans do when that happens is become more anxious of their surroundings. In this book, readers learn how to live more consciously in order to live freely and give something good into society.
It is a great way for me to take time to reset, connect with myself, refocus and continue with this thing called life. I highly recommend this spiritual, self-help read written by Maetreyii Ma Nolan
Love, forgiveness, gratitude, compassion, these are but a small number of aspects that the author covers in this book. Taking the practice of yoga beyond the simple form of physical activity and connecting it with your psyche is the goal here. The author gives us a book that is supposed to gently guide us in opening our mind to the love we receive in the Yama tradition. While educational and certainly interesting, I found much of the book was hard to understand or went over my head. I do practice yoga in its simplest forms and was hoping for something to help guide me into the more spiritual aspect of it all. This book sadly wasnt it for me.
I found Living Love: The Yoga of Yama & Niyama by Maetreyii Ma Nolan quite a refreshing and interesting read. I have always been interested to do Yoga but there is just no great opportunity for me to start it. Reading this book, however, opens up a great deal of information when it comes to this healthy practice. The book doesn't entirely teaches you yoga poses but it showcases the deeper aspect of it. It tackles more about your feelings, emotions, and how you feel connected to yourself and all the living things. This was not just informational for me but it also made me reflect on many things. I have friends who are yoga enthusiasts and I would recommend them to read this book, too.
This is a great book that has you feeling like you are entering a Bhuddist temple and focuses on the practice of outer peace to cultivate the practice of inner peace. A gentle guide.
Practical mysticism at its best. Delves into happiness better than any psychology. For a genuine life-changer, we need only to read and take up and expand on the suggestions.
This book can help anyone who is pursuing the path of personal development and it is unique in combining the ancient wisdom of yoga and modern psychology. This is the best book I found on the market addressing the ethical principles of yoga, Yama and Niyama. I highly recommend it to all who are interested in yoga and those who practice meditation and want to move forward in their spiritual life. The book addresses the deep insight of the workings of the mind and how it is important to self reflect on one's own day to day activities. I found it very helpful for walking the path of honesty, compassion and loving kindness. it is a great book to keep next to your bed and read a few paragraphs before the sleep.
Living Love is embued with peace, which is embodied in the book and passed on to the reader. Being faced with some difficulties in my life, I pick up living love and read why things are a certain way, and how with this understanding, I can work with them.
I won Living Love: The Yoga of Yama & Niyama by Maetreyii Ma from Goodreads.
Easy to read and understand, Living Love: The Yoga of Yama & Niyama by Maetreyii Ma is a beautiful guidebook for those seeking to ve according to the ancient teachings of Yoga. It is also a great resource for anyone who wishes to improve his relationships with others and to be true to oneself. Although this book can be read through quickly, it is perhaps better to red only a few pages at a time while contemplating the message in each vignette and working to incorporate the wisdom into one's daily life. At the very back of the book are suggestions for practice of the concepts. While Living Love is an important book for those who wish to follow the spiritual teachings of Yoga, it is also an inspirational read for anyone seeking self improvement.
Living Love has been a great source of inspiration for me. It contains ancient teachings of yoga, thought provoking concepts and practices, and deep spiritual and psychological insight.
