Ever worked in retail? Ever dreamed of getting revenge on the customers who make your life a misery? For some lucky staff of the Galore Supermarket franchise, that dream has become a reality as each of them is given three golden tickets to hand out to their most hated customers, inviting them to a late night of shopping they will never forget…or survive…
Well, this was such a lot of fun, with gore, blood, chopped limbs, the ‘LOT’.
Lovers Neve and Scooter, and their best friend Cassie, all work the night shift at “Galore Superstore” in Brighton. After attending a meeting at Head Office, for a “disciplinary”, which was in fact, to be offered a proposition from the ‘Big Boss’ Billy Galore. Along with several members of staff from other stores, they are each given 3 golden tickets, to hand out, as a prank, to their worst customers, to attend a “shopping extravaganza”, in which they could “win” £10K. This is all a ruse to ensure the customers attend...
Once again, Kelvin has given us a brilliantly entertaining read, providing us with characters, we can love and hate. Once I started reading this, it was difficult to put it down...I loved every “bloody” minute of it.
This is extreme horror, with some really nasty characters...customers AND staff!! Lots of “triggers” which include violent rape, torture, and bloody violence, so maybe, only recommended to fans of “extreme” and Splatterpunk.
The long awaited, highly anticipated retail horror revenge story you didn't know you needed. This is every retail worker's dream, and every customer's horrific nightmare!! And it is brutally brilliant and completely cathartic!! If you've ever worked in retail, you need this book in your life! 😉
Nancy is trying to escape the horrors in the Galore Supermarket, after having to leave her friend behind and watch as another is mutilated before her eyes. She is here because of a golden ticket, a golden ticket given to only the most deserving customers, to a special late night shopping spree. It's one hell of a spree, a murderous free for all of a spree….
Skip forward a year, and history is about to repeat itself!
Scooter is having to deal with a particularly unsavoury customer, he's trying to keep his cool, but his imagination is running wild with murderous thoughts. He soon finds relief in the warehouse with Neve however. Until yet another customer causes more grief later on, oh the joys of retail!! Eventually, a group of disgruntled staff are served with a disciplinary, which has to be taken at the Head Office, with none other than Billy Galore himself! Billy is passionate about his customers, passionate in his hatred for them, and he's offering his employees the perfect opportunity to get revenge on their most hated regulars!
Sometime later, they find themselves in a huge abandoned building, "The Depot", for a buffet, drinks and a game of 'Shop 'Til You Drop, and that's when the fun really begins, at 100mph, with absolutely no let up!
Would you take nasty revenge on customers if you were given the chance? When the incentive is cold hard cash and smug satisfaction? And where you're threatened with fatal punishment if you don't take part? This lot did! And it was extremely satisfying to watch it all unravel and for each customer to get their much deserved comeuppance! We see seemingly normal people having their inner nastiness, hatred, frustration and anger dragged out of them, turning them into brutal, remorseless killing machines. It's truly terrifying what a bit of cash waved under your nose will make some people do….but is it just about the money?
And, just when you think things can't possibly get any worse, we meet The Leper! An insane serial killer, deluded and terrifying!
This was brutal as fuck from the off!! It really got my adrenaline pumping! No holds barred brutal!
The reality of working retail is captured brilliantly!! Kelvin has a fantastic, dark and dirty sense of humour and it always shines through massively in his work, making this another hilariously fun read, amongst all the blood, gore and bodily fluids!
This was like Supermarket Sweep, with weapons and vengeance!!
I absolutely bloody adored this book...having once worked in retail for over 10 years I knew everyone of those annoying customers...I could have easily given out 💯 golden tickets in my time ...no problem!!! I found myself falling head over heels for Scooter...I loved Neve and I wanted to cuddle dear Cassie. Kelvin V.A Allison is a wonderful author and this book kept me gripped from start to finish, full on in your face gore, violence and extreme horror....I don't think a deli meat slicer and a cylinder grater will ever be the same again...You will need to read this book to understand!😵😳🤔🤪😬😱😨🤢🤮😓 GO ON I DARE YOU TO READ IT!!!
An intense extreme horror filled with absolute mayhem!! These Galore Supermarket employees had no idea what they were in for when they were dropped off at a hidden supercenter hoping to "prank" their worst customers. What the employees and the customers got was something much worse, fighting for their lives and trying to avoid the torture being inflicted on those unlucky enough to get caught or those not willing to partake. And why are these seemingly "normal" people suddenly feeling so violent anyways? Read it, you won't regret it! 4/5 skulls 💀
*I'm not going to give you the 'what this book is about' blurb - you can read that elsewhere.
1. I’ve now added Kelvin to my list of Filthy Heart Murderers. This should be all you need to know, but since this originated as a blog post, I guess I’ll add more thoughts on this book. *still mad at you, Kelvin!
2. This was a quick and brutal read. Super enjoyable, and includes a redemption arc as well as a not-so-gentle reminder that you may not know even your best friends as well as you think you do. That’s a terrifying concept in itself, but when you add that along with a horror plot it’s ‘extra’. (Did I use that right? I’m old)
3. I’ve spent most of my adult life working in some sort of customer service role. Even if it wasn’t, it was. IYKYK. BUT, in high school and early college, I worked at a grocery store. I love any type of customer service revenge story, but when it’s specific to grocery store employees, it hits a special spot in my heart. It heals parts of me I didn’t know were broken. Yes, even while it murders my heart.
This was an amazing read! If you have ever wanted to kill someone you hate, then you will love this. As always, Kelvin writes with such heart, yet it's gruesome and fucked up. The characters are relatable and you connect with them. Another masterpiece💀
For anyone who has ever worked in retail and wished for revenge on the inevitable terrible and rude customers, this book is for you.
Even if you’ve never worked in retail, you will sympathize with the staff of Galore Supermarket.
It’s a brutal, gory and violent read. Not for the faint of heart but if you brave the pages, you’re in for a treat!
Kelvin introduces us to the characters, who as usual run the gamut from lovable to despicable. His characters are always created to seem so real and it’s hard to not get attached to many of them. I found myself rooting for some and hoping others would meet unique and bloody ends.
After several staff members are offered the chance of a lifetime - three golden tickets to hand out to any customers they wish to punish for their unsavoury behaviour, the date is set and the “fun” begins.
The night, seeming to be set up as an elaborate prank soon finds blood flowing down the aisles.
As someone who has spent a few years in retail and dealing with customers, the plot of this story was extremely enticing! Great build-up. Interesting characters. Gory, funny, and at several times, it had me eagerly turning the page to see what would happen. next. Once again, Mr. Allison did not disappoint!
The first third of this book speaks a lot about the nightmare that is sometimes working in retail. However, it also puts on the spotlight some rude customers might need to pay attention to: What if the retail worker you where rude to was actually a fucking psycho?
In my opinion this story highlights the worst of both sides, both the entittled and vulgar customers as well as the happy masks that most retail workers have to put on their faces to put up to them, and what happens when said mask slips away.
I believe this subtext gets somewhat diluted in the final act in which is basically a free for all with no disntiction between customer and retail worker, which keeps it from the 5 star rating.
Have you ever witnessed someone in the retail industry being abused and tolerated it because ‘the customer is always right’? If you could give these cantankerous c£&ts a payback prank, who would you give your Gold Ticket to?
While Willie Wonka was a total creepy dude, the proprietor of Galore Stores is on a whole new level! When compliance is necessary to survive, choice is limited, but available - experiencing enjoyment in the task demonstrates your decline.
Heed every Trigger Warning. If it’s not for you, stop reading and don’t review!
Image description of the cover of Shop ‘Til You Drop by Kelvin V.A. Allison is a person in a supermarket shopping trolley/cart - they have been disfigured and are screaming. Horrifically!
Imagine this was Willy Wonka and his golden tickets except the reward for getting a golden ticket wasn't a supply of chocolate. Instead, the reward would be your demise. This is probably the most extreme take on retail horror. As an added bonus it takes place in the 1980s, which tends to be my favorite time period for horror.
This goes no-holds-barred and has the classic cheesy 80s vibes that I've come to expect. I can see why this book gets the love it gets. Retail horror is a guilty pleasure of mine and this quenched my thirst for it.
Next time, you might want to question if you get a golden ticket out of the blue. The reward might not be worth it, hehe.
This book is like the fantasy of so many retail workers and is spot on with the arsehole customers depicted within , I worked in retail for years and I would have absolutely loved to give these two customers my golden tickets , the guy that used to stand there and shit himself then shake turds out of his trouser leg , sometimes he’d piss himself instead and stand there in a puddle of his own making , and the woman who used to change her babies nappy in the packing area and leave all the shitty wipes and the soiled nappy on the counter . The kills in this story are immensely satisfying and the story itself is so well written , I’d give it 6 stars if I could.
Loved this so much, perfectly filled with just the right amount of gore (a heap loads). Nearly tapped out at the cheese-grater dildo attack though!!! I swear my soul nearly left my body AND my vagina shrivelled up with a mega cringe. Disgustingly brilliant.
Reads like a splatterpunk version of Willy Wonka. Cool idea. The characters fell a little flat for me but I did enjoy it overall. Going to read more by Allison. Just started his twisted Alice in Wonderland spinoff...
Galore Supermarket for all your grocery needs! Employees are happy to help you—well, some of you. Along with the good customers come the bad customers, but lucky for the employees of Galore, they get the opportunity to get revenge on those who ruin their workday. Specially selected staff get three gold tickets to give to their worst customers. The customers think they are going on a late-night shopping spree, but things are not what they seem.
Revenge in retail? Um, yes, please! Fast-paced, violent, and filled with great characters. Kelvin delivers a gore-filled thrill ride. Creative kills, twists, and turns another stellar read that will grip you from start to finish. Don't miss it!
After working on retail for so long I really hoped this would be the "Revenge" book I needed to move on without killing a customer myself. And for most of the book, that's what it was. But THAT ENDING! WHY?! We were on the employees side, rememner? why make it about the goverment and crazy stuff like money and power, end experiments. I still liked most of it. A solid 3.75 stars for me, just expected that small happy ending for at least a few employees, I was projecting, I guess.

When I saw in February that Allison was writing this, I squealed. I LOVE retail store stories (see my obsession with THE NIGHT STOCKERS by Triana and Harding). So I was ready… then he took his sweet freaking time writing. But never fear!, I promise it was worth the wait.
Neve, Scooter, and David have some customers that just make life miserable in their retail jobs. When a chance meeting gives them the golden ticket for some pay back, it’s not at all what they expected. With a cast of depraved and sinister misfits ready to dole out karma, no one is safe from their comeuppance.
Well, well, well, Mr. Allison you know how to build a rollercoaster of insanity! This is a wild ride, friends. Just when you think you have it figured out… nope. And kills are so fucking brutal. Meat cleavers, cheese graters (uggggh), and meat slicers are utilized in nefarious ways.
But what really got me was how the reader latches on to certain characters. Did I send a hateful message after one particular scene? Yes. Do I regret it? Never.
SHOP TIL YOU DROP is such a fun and quick story. SUPER DUPER RECOMMEND 10/5.
Okay so this a revenge story on all them annoying, rude customers you get in retail. But more. There’s a lot of characters to get your head around but I found it quite easy to follow each one once the author very cleverly described them all. Starts strong with a few people trying to run away from being murdered in a shop. Then we get to know all our characters. Supervisor Alan issues a disciplinary to 4 colleagues and they head off to the founder of the retail store where he offers them a chance to give out 3 golden tickets each to the customers they like the least and want to “prank” according to Billy (owner of franchise). When they get to the day of the prank they are told otherwise. It’s a murder spree and all the customers have to die. In order to win a cash prize for themselves. Found myself rooting for a certain couple to win and had my heart pulled from my chest with the ending. I shed a few tears 😭 Who wins all the money? Find out.
