It provides a careful examination of the cultural, historical, economic, demographic and socio-political factors that contributed both to the feminization of this religious culture and its strong female leaders.
I read this back in the early 2000's for a class on Louisiana history and I enjoyed it. It was in paperback form, the cover was the same, and it was from U. of La. press. Don't remember if the author was the same. It was quite interesting.
