This is a very good book, written by someone who clearly has a lot of experience in real-world Web development.

While using PHP and MySQL in his examples, this book is really more of a Web development book, giving sage advice about how to develop many different aspects of how best to do that. There are more in-depth books about PHP and about MySQL (and relational databases in general), but the author gives a balanced and down-to-earth practical description of these technologies.

There were a small number of typos (actually, very good for a book of this size and complexity), most of which were unimportant. One caused me to question something, and I looked for an errata for the book. I could only find a promise from the author to provide one on his blog, but didn't find it.

If you plan on using PHP and MySQL, my guess is that you'll need more detail than this book supplies, but the advice that it imparts is likely to be very valuable to you.

This was an EXCELLENT book to read on learning the fundamentals of php web-based applications. The section I extremely enjoy is the php and database structuring, they wrote it nicely and the graphs and pictures help describe what they're talking about.

A definitely "Must have" for people starting with PHP or wanting to become a web developer of some sort.
