The Third Edition of CALCULUS reflects the strong consensus within the mathematics community for a new balance between the contemporary ideas of the original editions of this book and ideas and topics from earlier calculus books.
A good text book is one that a student can pick up and use to learn the subject at hand, and this book doesn't even come close. There are a lot of skipped steps and a major chasm where explanation and background should go. There are also a lot of errors in this book (starting with the table of contents and continuing all the way to the end).
That's right, five stars. This is the only calculus book that I would ever want to pick up again. Not simple. Not easy to understand. Nothing was ever explained step by step. But it came with the answers software! And it's easier to work backwards with calculus.
