A must for any Tintin fan, this is both the official exhibition catalogue and a celebration of 75 years of the irrepressible boy reporter. From his first appearance in January 1929, the globe-trotting Tintin took to boats in his pursuit of adventure. Motor-launches and liners, cargo vessels and historic each is meticulously depicted by Herge, who laboured over every detail. A new dimension, punctuated with a staggering repertoire of salty swear words -- 'billions of blistering barnacles!' -- came in 1940 with the introduction of Captain Haddock. From then on, with this loyal, whisky-loving companion, Tintin could hardly be a landlubber.

Michael Farr (born 1953 in Paris) is a former British journalist and an expert regarding the comic series The Adventures of Tintin and its creator, Hergé. He has written several books on the subject, as well as translating several others into English.

বিশেষজ্ঞ পর্যায়ের বই। টিনটিন সিরিজের বইগুলোতে জাহাজ, নৌযান, সমুদ্র সম্পর্কিত বিষয়ে যা যা তথ্য আছে, সব কিছু এক করে এই বই বের করা হয়েছে। বইটা ছোট, কিন্তু তথ্য যথেষ্ট। রেমি জর্জ ওরফে আর্জে টিনটিন বইগুলোতে সামুদ্রিক বিষয়গুলোতে কতোখানি ডিটেইলিং নিয়ে কাজ করেছেন, প্রতিটা বিষয় কতোখানি নির্ভুল আর নিখুঁত করার চেষ্টা করেছেন, তা এ বইয়ে ফুটে উঠেছে।

ইউনিকর্ন সম্পর্কিত অধ্যায়টা সবচেয়ে দারুণ, বিশেষ করে জলদস্যু রেড র‍্যাকহ্যাম কিভাবে কোন পথে বাতাসের গতিপথ কাজে লাগিয়ে ফ্রান্সিস হ্যাডকের জাহাজ ইউনিকর্ন দখল করে নিলো, ম্যাপ সহ পুংখানুপুংখ ভাবে অতি সুন্দর করে বুঝিয়ে দেওয়া হয়েছে।

একই সাথে টিনটিন সিরিজের কোন জাহাজটি বাস্তব দুনিয়ার কোন জাহাজের মডেলে আঁকা হয়েছে, তাদের নামকরণের পিছনে কাহিনী কি, বাখ্যা করা হয়েছে। সামুদ্রিক ঝড়ে জাহাজ কিভাবে দুলতে দুলতে ওলট পালট করে, তা আর্জে যে ফোটো দেখে অনুকরণ করেছেন, সে ফোটোগুলোও তুলে ধরা হয়েছে।

Shooting Star (উল্কা রহস্য) এ উল্কার অবস্থান পৃথিবীর কোন জায়গায় ছিল, সে উল্কায় আগে পৌছাতে টিনটিন আর হ্যাডকের জাহাজের গতিপথ, আর প্রতিদ্বন্দী জাহাজের গতিপথ, কোন জাহাজ কোন সময়ে কোন জায়গায় অবস্থান করতেছিলো, সুন্দর বৈজ্ঞানিক আর গাণিতিক বাখ্যা সহ বুঝিয়ে দেওয়া হয়েছে।

এ বই সবার জন্য না। যারা পাঁড় টিনটিনোলজিস্ট, যারা গল্পের পিছনের গল্পের সন্ধানে দৌড়ান, তাদের জন্য।

A fascinating look at Herges work and inspirations. It really showed the level of detail that he put into Tintin

A must read for every Tintin fan. Fantastic details about the way Herge meticulously planned and created the characters and places in the wonderful series that we know !!

I particularly loved the list of imaginary (and actual) port names that Herge has created for the many of Tintin's adventures. Remember Wadesdah?? Also, Herge's pencil sketches of some of the ships and snapshots of some real ships are a collector's delight.

I wish there were more books on this theme !!
