Well that was pretty...bad. So the selection of images were great and some of the topics chosen were great. For example, dress and hairstyles are not often discussed. The problem is that some of the information was incorrect. There were sweeping statements that were not entirely correct or only partial, which meant the areas that I’m not familiar with, I’m unsure on what is fact. The book is clearly meant to be for beginners, but it the book gives a false impression. The worst part was that Heracles was referred to as Hercules despite it being a book on Ancient Greece.

I should have known something was wrong the second I saw the cover; it features the lowest resolution image of "Sappho" that you will ever see. Notice how I put her name in quotes because this painting is from Pompeii and is more likely to be a Roman woman than a Grecian one.
I got this book on sale for $6 and frankly, that price is far more than its' worth. I didn't actually finish it--I couldn't! The entire manuscript is so poorly written that the author/editor must have a very poor grasp of the English language. Further, the grammer and syntax are so bizarre that it makes me think some kind of rudimentary A.I. was involved as well.
I can't really vouch for the veracity of the facts because I couldn't stomach it long enough to actually finish a whole page. What I did read was more like a newspaper op-ed than a history book. I got the impression like the author barely understood what they were attempting to write about.
This hardcover is 200+ pages. I'm completely baffled as to how it actually got published.

An all too brief yet tantalizing superficial treatment of the subject. Almost enough here to peak the interest of the reader to discover more.

If you are studying or have a general interest or fascination of Ancient Greece this is a really good book. Illustrations and pictures are great and tons of interesting information about everything in and around Ancient Greece from: Art, architecture, theatre, gods and myths to culture!

Good book :)
