Andrew Laurance is a pseudonym for writer Drew Launay. Drew used this name for his best selling Psychic Thrillers, for which some of the film rights were sold to Hammer House of Horror. The Nostradamus Lives Trilogy, Black Hotel, Ouija and Catacomb are all being republished in Kindle format. A new Psychic Thriller 'Deadly Games' will be published in print and Kindle shortly.
Drew Launay is the author of 56 books with subjects ranging from domestic trauma, psychic thrillers and erotic humour to non fiction on luxury foods, antiques, history, and travel as well as stage plays and scripts for films and television.
Born in London of French parents, he was educated in England, finished in France and escaped the pressures of London to write full time in Spain.
First married to a serene English fashion model he was divorced then married to a fiery, footstamping, mad as a sombrero Andalusian. From both he gained a great deal of valuable material and experience of life.
He is the father of three sons, Nick Launay a famous record producer, two in the film business, and Melissa Launay a successful illustrator-artist daughter.
The cover lured me in. Ouija sounded like the ultimate horror novel on the topic. Well, it was a bit different than expected. Warren has three holiday acquaintances. Together they develop a passion for Ouija. Soon their sessions have impact on the real life. What about the Spanish Inquisition involved here? What about their host in the Ouija sessions and his mysterious book? Why seem the main characters "joined" somehow? Okay, there were some open minded sex scenes culminating in a menage a trois, some sinister references to the Inquisition, some strange deaths and the power of Ouija but overall the story was a bit confusing and too much 70s horror for me. The story couldn't compete with the great cover here. It was entertaining and eerie at parts but over many parts a bit lackluster. It was an okay read but nothing to get too excited about it.
2.5 Stars Some well written horror scenes, but hampered by a slow meandering plot that went off on tangents that werent as interesting as the main story. Had to push through reading this one. A board game creator researching ouija boards requests a night with a girl to prove they are just entertainment. But when that girl sleeps with him and subsequently commits suicide, him and his friends are haunted by her spirit who makes others around them kill themselves.
I read this in one sitting but had to push through a lot of it. Some of it just didn’t make sense either. A meandering plot that jumped around leaving me confused. Some of the writing was good though which kept me going. I’m a sucker for ouija board premises but have yet to find a book that’s been really fun. The best one I have found so far, is the beginning of ‘Darkness, Tells us’ by Richard Laymon and that was just the beginning. Short lived.
The title says Ouija, but the story is not just about the board, it's also about, love , loss greed, and power! What starts off as a bit of fun,for Warren Ryder, soon turns into.a nightmare Warren is a salesman, and also a board game designer, and gets the chance to go to Spain, to a Sales Fare, it's while here, he bumps into Chantal, Zuke and the waif like Jacinta, It's with these people.he plays with the Ouija, they should have told him, that The Ouija is NOT A TOY,, Maybe if they had, things wouldn't have gone do horribly wrong,,,,
It was so hard for me to finish this book!! I was so confused by the end I don't even fully know what happened...probably because I was bored so I stopped paying attention but I bought it based on the cover so I can't say much. Anyway, I rate the cover 3/5 I love it
