A life-affirming message for those who counsel couples facing an unplanned pregnancy. Encouraging readers to reach out with compassion and sensitivity, Ensor offers updated scientific knowledge, practical applications, and theological insights to help you gently guide women to choose life, and prospective fathers to protect and provide for their children―especially those in the womb.
First off I have to say that I am not the target audience for this book. I am a pro-life atheist, not a Christian. However, I am very pro-life. I really found a lot to relate to in this book despite its very Christian slant. The book is written to encourage Christians to join the pro-life movement, an excellent cause, and to give encouragement to Christians who are already fighting for the unborn. Ensor comes across as very sincere and compassionate. I learned about the history of Christians challenging abortion and abandonment in ancient Rome. Much of it came from John Grant's book Third Time Around, which I personally found unreadable. Although Ensor is a strong Christian, he does not come across as self-righteous like so many Christian authors. I liked his honesty in admitting that abortion is a problem among Christians. His anecdotes about women who came to him and people he has worked with illustrate his points. Overall, this was a good book. While I would be tempted to give it fewer stars, I feel it's just about perfect for pro-life (or on-the-fence) Christians, which are, after all, who it was written for.
I am post-abortive and I serve on a team that offers free retreats that offer faith-based healing for abortion-wounded hearts. Even with this as a background, I'm often silent when it comes to the pro-life conversation. Most of the time, it is out of fear of entering into the passionate debate and being found lacking in my response.
This book does an incredible job of laying out the issues, the history, and giving examples of how to speak on pro-life terms. I will read this one again and again. It is important that we know how to speak out with love, even as we act out of love. John Ensor does a great job equipping us to do just that.
This was a truly amazing book. It was not just about abortion, although it did cover a lot of history, statistics, and clear pro-life arguments with lots of supporting bible text. I found myself in prayer & contrite about my own sins against God. I highly recommend this book to everyone. It will blow you away.
I found it emotionally a bit difficult to read (though it is not at all graphic), but it was engaging and the style was fairly conversational.
Very important read. Simple to read and yet very thought provoking. I recommend all Christians read this short book and consider your role in protecting life.
