Of the 1.2 million abortions performed annually in the U.S., more than 500,000 are performed on college-aged women. They make up 44% of all abortions in the country. So it is not surprising that there is a large, thriving network of pro-life groups on college campuses. These groups serve to advocate for pro-life and educate other young people about the physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual effects that abortion has on women. While there are online guides and booklets on the topic, there are currently very few if any books that are specifically geared for use by young advocates for this cause. Now there is Stand for Life, a manual that addresses tough questions in a format that is concise and straightforward.
I would really give this 4 stars, because I didn't like the religious content, but considering the target audience is religious pro-lifers, I'll give it five as it will no doubt be the perfect book for them. This has some great information in it. Even though I am not a student, I feel I benefitted from reading this book. The tips that it gives about arguing the pro-life position in a compassionate and effective way are very valuable. It's also a very encouraging book, with a lot of good information in it. I felt really psyched to jump into the pro-life cause after reading it. It's a good book for students and really for anyone in the pro-life movement who may need some encouragement and effective training
I am unabashedly pro-life. I don’t even mind saying that I am anti-abortion, although there is much more to being pro-life than just that. This book came to me as a result of a donation that I made to a pro-life organization, Students for Life of America. It is an edition intended by that organization primarily for its members of Stand for Life: A Student's Guide for Making the Case and Saving Lives by the same authors. The book is like a “manual” that addresses tough questions in a format that is concise and straightforward with the design of educating young people about the physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual effects that abortion has on women. Basically, it all boils down to one issue. “Are the unborn, like toddlers, members of the human family?” All the available evidence says “YES!”
Of the 1.2 million abortions performed annually in the U.S., more than 500,000 are performed on college-aged women. They make up 44% of all abortions in the country. While there are online guides and booklets on the topic, there are currently very few if any books that are specifically geared for use by young advocates for this cause. Students for Life seeks to fill that gap. Topics include Defending your pro-life views in five minutes or less, Understanding the sanctity of human life, Simplifying the abortion debate, Developing a Christian response to abortion, and Keeping cool under fire. Some of the thorny issues discussed are unsafe “back alley” abortions, rape, abortion when mothers lives are at risk, “my body, my choice,” and more. It is extremely interesting and enlightening.
This book is a super room for the hands of a uni student!! The SLED acronym is a great start for defending the LIFE of an unborn baby! Definitely has equipped me with more clarity to say what I believe and it has empowered and empassioned me to speak out against anortion and for hope with boldness- is not an issue that any follower of Jesus can afford to be passive about! Especially since god our hero welcomes little kids like no other!!
I've heard both John Ensor and Scott Klusendorf speak and they are both awesome...but it's impossible to soak in everything they say. This book is full of so much wisdom! It's broken down into easy-to-digest sections and includes many examples. It hits on every major point someone may use to defend abortion...and with a wise and scientifically accurate response. I feel much more confident and prepared to share my pro-life beliefs with others.
This book was clearly and concisely written. Ensor did a great job at organizing each point into an easy to understand and learn chapter. The book equips college students to know about the truths of abortion, how to defend it, and how to get out there and use what they learn in the book. The book perfectly sums up the abortion topic in one smallish book.
A must-read for anyone to defend the lives of the unborn in a practical, persuasive AND LOVING way. I was both persuaded and convicted by this book, and I pray I won’t be silent.
What makes a person human? That’s the heart of what Ensor and Klusendorf address here, and is also the core of the entire abortion issue. If the unborn are human then they should not be denied the basic rights all humans share. More to the point, who gets to determine whether the unborn are human? Filled with helpful and relevant approaches for engaging a culture that has been largely blinded to the truth of unborn life.
This book does exactly what it says it will: educating students to adequately argue the case for life. I unashamedly cried at parts, especially about a picture on page 103. This is a highly useful book and I recommend it for any pro-life advocate.
This was a very good book for anyone who wants to learn how to defend their pro-life views. The two authors presented their ideas/case very simply and briefly. There was only one chapter that I may disagree with their logic on but I would still recommend this book without hesitation.
