Store-bought soft furnishings can be expensive and the choice is often limited—but with so many gorgeous designer fabrics on sale, there’s never been a better time to make your own.
Sewing in No Time sets out 50 simple step-by-step projects using nothing more than the most basic of sewing skills. Illustrated throughout using specially commissioned photographs and easy-to-follow step-by-step diagrams, Sewing in No Time is the perfect book for people who are big on ideas but short of time. Whether your home is a traditional country cottage, or a modern warehouse-style apartment, you’re sure to find plenty of ideas to inspire you.
So I feel a bit mean giving this two stars but this book wasn’t what I thought it would be and so I don’t feel I can give it more as I don’t know how good it would be for someone with more skills than me.
I can stitch up a hole but I have no actual sewing skills, I just go back and forth till there is no more hole. So this year (the year I’ve decided to try all those things I’ve been meaning to but never get around to) I thought I’d learn some skills and make myself a basic wrap skirt.
This book with the title “sewing in no time” made me believe it would teach me the skills to be sewing in no time. When what it mean was you’ll be able to sew these projects in no time so long as you have a basic sewing knowledge and a machine (I have neither). Ah the joys of the English language.
Might be a great book if you already have some skills but I’m off to try and find another source for basic sewing skills.
This book contains some nice sewing projects, but nothing that I haven't seen in other books. The illustrations are good and instructions are clear and thorough.
This book contains 50 household projects that you can sew. The projects start in right away, so it would be necessary to know sewing techniques outside of this book.
I'm really enjoying this book: lots of simple projects that I actually want to make. Instructions and diagrams are clear and well written. Would be 5 stars except for one thing: finished project dimensions are not given. Thus, it's hard to know exactly how big the children's tent will be, or the floral rug, etc. Otherwise, great stuff in here! Time frames seem fairly accurate as well (I've made a couple of things so far). Also, it's worth noting that the variety of projects is great, but all for the home: drawstring stuff bags, small rugs, drapes/valances, duvet covers, placemats and napkins, etc.
Good projects (not just blankets but padded hangars, tea cozies, awnings and children's play tents along with door stops). Good colors. Illustrated directions.
I liked the way the projects in this book were arranged by living area. Nice photos of finished projects and steps along the way. As a beginning sewer, many of the projects were more than I would want to tackle, but there is a nice variety.
Nice book with lots of helpful ideas and suggestions to make own home furnishings. I've read this books a few times now but not actually attempted to make anything, yet. I will though, I just need to hone my skills on the sewing machine first.
