Destiny Bay: Baby Dreams #6

In a Marrying Mood

Rate this book
Cam Sterling was back in town, and he was every inch as gorgeous as Ann Dupree remembered. Not that he'd ever noticed her. After all, he'd lived in the Sterling mansion, and she came from the other side of town.

Now Cam--still charming, disarming--was looking for a wife. The county's most beautiful women flocked to his family estate, attending a stream of theme parties catered by Ann. And though her job was to help Prince Charming find his Cinderella, Cam's provocative teasing only fueled her desire . . . and her guilt for betraying her husband's memory.

Ann had considered herself off the marriage mart... until Cam's marrying mood became as irresistible as his kiss.

Aka Helen Conrad and Jena Hunt

Helen Conrad was born on April 11, 1945 in Pasadena, California, U.S.A. and grew up between Holland, Guam, and California, and spent a few years in Washington, D.C. as well. She obtained a B.A. in English Literature.

Helen was working toward a Master's in Library Science when she dropped out to have her first son. "One look into those baby blue eyes and I knew it was going to be a long time before I went back to school. But with young ones, you do have time to read, and the more I read, the more I learned about writing". She started writing because she felt guilty about spending so much time reading. "Through writing I figured I could still immerse myself in the stories I love, but I could actually claim I was working! The amazing thing was when I sold my first book and the excuse was justified. Dreams really do come true!"

After years of writing romantic suspense in the style of Mary Stewart and children's books in a lot of styles, she finally sold a romance to Jove's Second Chance at Love and there was celebration all around-at least in her ever-patient family of husband and four boys. She published four more romances for Jove under the name Jena Hunt, then began writing Silhouette Desires. A few sales to Bantam Loveswept and Harlequin Romance, Temptationand SuperRomance under the name Helen Conrad followed, as well as to Harpers, Dell Ecstasy, Mills & Boon, and even an historical with Zebra. Today, she is concentrating on Silhouette Romance, completely captivated by the breezy fun and touching poignancy of their compact, to-the-point form. She feels the perfect "quick read" should make the reader smile, sigh and put the book down feeling better about the state of love in the world.

Now, she lives in the Los Angeles area now with Nick, her geologist-computers cientist husband and the two of her four sons who still live at home."Having the boys around helps keep me up on the current trends," she says with a laugh. "But writing helps keep me in touch with the romance that weaves through the everyday lives we all live.

I particularly liked this Harlequin romance. It's more modern, more like today's romances, but it still showed the caring and loving that you expect from a Harlequin. Cam is the rich boy from town who made it good in NYC, and now his mother is trying to arrange a marriage for him by throwing elaborate parties for single women for him to meet. The caterer is Ann, his best buddy's widow. She has always had feelings for him, but she ignored them and went on to live a happy life with Johnny, until his death a few years ago. Now that she and Cam are thrown together again, their feelings start to surface, and both realize that they want to try again, but Johnny's ghost stands in their way. I liked that both had a sense of morals that kept them apart and trying to hold true to Johnny's memory. Although they cared for each other, they didn't want to admit it and instead grew to be better friends and confidants before giving in to their feelings. Great characters, with a bit more substance that the usual light-hearted romance. I will look for more from this new-to-me author.

Another fantastic book by Helen Conrad.. I will never tire of reading her books... this is the 6th book in the Destiny Bay baby Dreams... The story of Ann Dupree and Cam Carrington.. they have a history.. she felt he let her husband down before he died...Can she forgive and forget... the story is funny at times there is heart ache there as well .... A true story of love and grief... with misapprehension along the way... This book would go well as a stand alone book .. even though it is part of the series.. I highly recommend this book 100%

Read this as book 6 in " The Carringtons babies " boxed set.

Although we believe we live in a free society. there are still people who are ruled by the need to pass on their heritage and wealth.
This is a tale of a son honoring a promise to his mother, as to allowing her to find a wife for him, if he had not secured his own before he turned 35.
The only spanner in the works, was an encounter with a a woman, who had attracted his attention 15 years earlier.
An interesting tale of how life can be be so very complicated.
