E. C. Jackson began her writing career with the full-length play Pajama Party. Thirty-one years later, she adapted the play into Pajama Party: The Story, a companion book to the second book in the five-book standalone Hope series.

Jackson’s favorite pastime is reading fiction. She enjoys taking the journey along with the characters in the books. That also led to her unorthodox approach to story writing. Her vision for each book she writes is to immerse readers into the storyline so they become connected with each character.

“The Write Way: A Real Slice of Life” is the slogan on her Facebook author page. She feels that if every person reading her books feels connected to the characters, her job is done.

If I were to describe this book in a short sentence, I would say it is “a non-tragic Romeo and Juliet set in modern times”. Of course it’s a simplification, but the interference of both families’ on their personal lives (particularly James’ family), the families’ considerable wealthy and power, and the theme of marriage of convenience reminded me of Shakespeare’s classical love story, which is, of course, a positive trait of this novel.
The story revolves around the dichotomy between family life and the start of a new nuclear family. Everyone knows how this process can be unsettling, since it concludes the transition into adult life. It’s no surprise then that James’ father pressures him into marrying a woman he doesn’t love: he wants his son to finish his definitive transition into becoming a grown-up. In his mind, his son can’t be a full-grown man unless he is married, and that’s a prerequisite for him to run the family business.
Neka is a sweet, God-fearing, amazingly pretty 21-year-old that is shy and reserved. She’s been friends with James for a long time, but secretly fell in love with him. She learns beforehand that James is going to be dumped, and decides to seize the opportunity to bring them closer together and change the nature of their relationship.
One can expect a book with a steady pace, it never becomes boring, and there’s a nice psychological development to Neka’s character, my favorite.
I recommend this book to people interested on reading about love, hope, and life’s unpredictability.

“A Gateway to Hope” is a stunning read, occupied with ingenious descriptions that moved my heart and soul. I am so thrilled to have come across such an astounding author, as her writings within elicited empathy and faith. The experience provokes spiritual maturity, and felt Neka’s character to be an absolute blessing and a rarity to come by.

To be honest, even though this novel was written as a Christian Romance, I do believe its contents also has a purpose in supporting and building up the body of Christ, to attain the unity of faith and the knowledge of the Son of God. I must say my heart soared when the Holy Spirit was mentioned and having read Christian based fiction in the past this is the first time the Holy Spirit has been mentioned as of yet. I am moved and overwhelmed, as my heart has been hoping that an author would bring at least a mention of this precious gift from God into their works one way or another. :)

The author elicits empathy and Christian values to the forefront as the characters pushed through major changes. As they faced adversity and blessings during major shifts in their lives, it made Neka’s unwavering faith in God and the growth in James a delightful page-turner. I highly recommend the read and look forward to more from this author.

“A Gateway to Hope,” by E.C. Jackson, is an inspirational romance with an engaging plot and a message of moving forward in the face of adversity. The story follows the optimistic, introverted 21-year-old Neka and 29-year-old James Copley; two people from very different backgrounds. When James’ fiancée leaves him the day she’s supposed to meet the family, James is in a predicament because his dad requires him to marry for him to continue to be involved with the family business. Neka steps into the picture, and the two, each with their unique personality, force each other to face issues they had been avoiding, while opening new doors at the same time. Jackson has a knack for writing in a way that deals with real problems while still being optimistic and uplifting. The romance plot is paced well, with plenty of ups and downs, and Neka and James have great chemistry. If you’re looking for an inspirational romance, I'd highly recommend “A Gateway to Hope" to you!

A gateway to Hope is an excellent debut book from E.C. Jackson. Neka and James are very well developed and fully fleshed out characters with a believable relationship that is built organically and not forced. It is refreshing to find a romance novel where the story and the relationship is not all about sex. In this book the author has not gone down the easy route of including loads of sex scenes to show their attraction to each other.

Overall this is an excellent book that had me hooked from the first page and I actually finished it in 1 sitting. Each character and the plot of the book is very well developed. Both main characters are very real and relatable. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to read an actual romance story where the characters actually connect with each other and develop their relationship without jumping into bed every other scene.

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!

Not your typical romance. A deeper look into what makes a relationship work. The message is clear. Love is not enough. It takes patience, compromise and a lot of faith. This theme is brought to life by the author through her lovely heroine Nikhol and the man of her dreams, James. I really enjoyed following them on their journey with all of their ups and downs including disapproving family, business and even the jilted exes. The way the author conveys the thoughts and feelings of both James and Nikhol as they go through the process of becoming one is nothing short of brilliance. Recommend.

If you're looking for a good read you've found it! A story of great romance without being explicit or obscene...

Congratulations E C Jackson on such an outstanding debut story! Your characters were very relatable making the book a delight to read! The changes that took place in both the hero and heroine were believable, which is a major plus in my book! It was such a sweet story, I couldn't put it down after I started reading!!! I can't wait to see what else you have in store for us!

Neka's friends outside of her family are practically nonexistent. Her shy awkwardness makes it hard to talk to people, and her firm belief in God is off putting to those without her strong faith. Thankful for the family that surrounds and protects her, Neka still wants more. She believes God has more in store for her than the life she's living.
James grew up fighting for acceptance in his family. Shut out, mocked, and belittled for the last time, he moved to Tulsa years ago to prove them wrong. But the ruthlessness that abounds in his family has rubbed off on him, and he is not the man he wants to be.
Four years ago James was drawn to Neka at a party and they have been friends ever since. Will they fight together, or lose the one thing they didn't know they needed...each other?

A Gateway to Hope tells the story of two people trying to figure out if and how to join their lives without losing who they are. E.C. Jackson has brought us a book that everyone can love and relate to.
Everything about this book is good-the writing, the story, the characters. Jackson brings everything to life in a believable way with an attention to detail that lets you see and feel everything clearly without overwhelming the story. You feel like part of the book instead of someone simply reading it.
James and Neka are believable characters that we can all relate to. You feel for them almost immediately, and understand their struggle. They feel very real, and Jackson did a fabulous job with them.
When you start reading this book you are sucked into the story. Each page is better than the last and you don't want to put it down. You can easily lose track of time when hanging out in the world Jackson has created, and I get the feeling this is only the beginning to something amazing!

A Gateway to Hope is E.C. Jackson’s first novel. It includes themes of past mistakes, trusting in God, a hope for the future, and lasting love. Although the ending of the story is somewhat predictable, E.C. has created characters that readers will easily relate to as read about the relationship struggles of Neka and James and relate it to their own struggles. This novel is both fun and series. Readers who enjoy contemporary romance fiction with a strong theme of dealing with relationships of loved ones will enjoy this novel.

This book by E. C. Jackson held my attention from the beginning until the end. Neka and James' characters came alive in the first chapter and then captivated me throughout the story. It felt like I knew them personally and I enjoyed every twist and turn they took.

The supporting characters came across just as real as James and Neka. Encore! Can't wait until the next book. And if a movie is made, the models on the cover must play the parts.

This book came highly recommended and lived up to the praise. It depicted life in a modern society. Real life relationships came to mind as I read. I felt the hope of Neka and the angst of James as they tried to come to terms with their choices. Plus, protect themselves from future hurts. The rest of the characters reminded me of how we allow other people's opinions to shape our destiny.

THOUGHTS
A Gateway to Hope by E.C. Jackson is an impressive debut novel who is real with an imperfectly perfect heroine.
I enjoyed seeing a story with realness even if there was a main character that annoyed me quite a bit for the book but I overall enjoyed it.
The faith themes were well written in a perhaps overly shown way at some points but I found it warming and I loved the family elements.
There were a few annoying things… Okay, they were supposed to be, like the selfish ex-fianceé and her trying to get back at the guy she ditched… I was also unsure of some things that happened with the families and inconsistencies with them. Otherwise, I found A Gateway to Hope to be an enjoyable read and romance readers will enjoy them.
18+ recommendation due to sexual suggestions and/or comments.
I voluntarily received and reviewed a complimentary e/copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

I thought this was a good book. I liked seeing the characters change and grow as the story progressed. I liked seeing them change to become better people through the things that happened to them. I liked the romance between James and Neka. I liked seeing it change and become two people who loved each other for who they are regardless of other people’s opinions. I thought this story was sweet and a good glimpse into how we can change to be the people that God knows we can be.

I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors.  A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.

A Gateway to Hope by E. C. Jackson is a beautiful story about a Christian girl that is to quiet for anyone to noticed, including her family. One day she does something out of character for her and leave town for two weeks with out telling her family before hand. Why you wonder? She is going to become engage with the guy she is in-love with to help him get his position back in his father dominion business. It all work perfectly until the get back to town and his other girlfriends try to get him back.
This book is about faith in Gods plans for us and open mind to fallow his ways. The main character is a religious girl and small passages in the bible are quoted in a few place throughout the story. Even so there isn’t a lot of preaching in this book just a pleasant remainder of how we can have a better life if we listen to God and let Him help us.
A Gateway to Hope is a nice pace story that will help you feel great and you will be rotting for both main characters. It has great moral values that need to be share more often in romances. This is a simple and clean romance tale for all to enjoy without reserve. A Gateway to Hope by E. C. Jackson is a great reading material and a well-done book. Happy readings.

It's rare finding a romance novel that isn't based on physical relationships. I love that this book was about an actual relationship and not sex. It's great finding a romance novel that is PG. With James about to be single Neka decides to make a move to win the heart of James who she has secretly been crushing on for years. The book covers their relationship at a nice pace that isn't to slow or to fast.

The characters had real problems, and real struggles. You feel for the characters and are intrigued to find out how the story pans out to the last chapter. With so many questions about life and the meaning behind God's plan for you and this personal journey Neka goes on you find yourself unable to stop reading.

A Gateway to Hope is an incredibly well-written novel about love and the obstacles through it. The story involves the characters jumping through some hoops–like Neka’s seemingly unrequited love for James–and because of that, readers feel compelled to read on right from the beginning. I found the characters in A Gateway to Hope to be very well-rounded, with faults and quirks of their own. This adds an extra layer of realism to the story, and makes the characters really relatable. I also love how love and idea of love in this story are not based on physical relationships it is purely the connection between two characters, and that makes the relationship flow smoothly along in the story.

Overall, A Gateway to Hope is a brilliantly spun debut novel by E.C Jackson.

At the start, this story drew me in right away. In some ways, it felt a little like we were just joining into a story that was already going on and I actually really appreciated that to start. As the story went on though, I felt like I struggled to connect as much as I would have liked despite that initial draw in. And so, my interest waned for a bit, and it took longer to get back into the story. I think part of that was because I really just didn't care all that much for James' character in the beginning. I feel like he did grow as the story progressed though, which I always appreciate seeing... especially in a Christian novel. While most of the romances that I read are really all about the falling in love and the swoon worthy moments, this one felt a little different. I mean, there is that and there is a happily ever after, of course... but I feel like this one really focusses on the challenges that come with blending two lives together. As such, it was a really interesting read and I think it really set this one apart in a good way. I also really appreciated how important faith and standing firm in beliefs was to the story. The romance was great, sure... but that faith element really stood out for me.

While it took me a bit to get into, I did enjoy this one in the end. If you're looking for a faith-based romance with imperfect characters, this is certainly one worth checking out for yourself.

This novel depicts the faith of many characters, but also their strong-willed personalities.

Neka is a kind, gentle soul who has loved James since she was 17. While he was kind to her during the four years until now, she wasn't someone that I think he considered seriously for a long-term relationship until his father threw an ultimatum in his path, and his arranged fiancee dumped him. While they might know each other, they really don't know each other. That changes over the course of the book as they deal with their respective families. Neka is a somewhat naive twenty-one year old, but her parents are also a bit overprotective. I suppose I can't blame them, but some of their words to her seemed inappropriate. She is twenty-one, not a child. James' father is no picnic either. Why would he force one of his children to marry just to stay in the company? Seems crazy to me.

Despite the family interference, James and Neka set down a path for life together. It takes some real conversations to understand each other's beliefs and goals for life. It isn't all about business, but there is a foundation for so much more waiting to be discovered. I believe James also helps to bring Neka out of her shell and make her more confident with her beauty and intelligence. Neka also shows unwavering faith in James and his goals for life and his business.

I felt like the characters had some depth and strong faith. There are some times when the conversations feel forced, but not too often. It also felt like we should know the characters and the families better than we do as if this is a book further in a series.

This was still a very enjoyable book, and we give it 4 paws up.

A Gateway to Hope, by E. C. Jackson, is a contemporary romance and is the first in a series of four books. In this first book, readers find Nikhol (Neka) going to the rescue of a friend who has been dumped by his fiancée. This impulsive act of stepping out of her humdrum life ultimately becomes an offering for a marriage of convenience to help James in his family business arrangements. It may end up not being quite the adventure she had hoped for. I liked how the author portrayed growth in each of the two main characters. Neka is insecure; yet she pushes herself outside her comfort zone and begins voicing opinions without being judgmental. Her faith in God throughout various struggles is strong and scripturally based. James is a self-made man with a fragile ego caused by abandoned dreams and he has a difficult time with the concept of compromise. Could he learn to trust Neka with his most hidden fears? Their personalities ensure a bumpy road ahead. Would it all smooth out in the end? Could they find a life together after mistakes and bad decisions, and recognize they are not a product of the past but of God's grace? There are a lot of family dynamics in the story as well as a number of business-related scenarios, all of which add to the interest of the story. Readers who enjoy a contemporary love story portraying strong family ties and Christian values will not want to miss A Gateway to Hope. I read a complimentary copy of the book given to me by JustReads Publicity Tours and was not required to write a positive review. The opinions are my own.

A Gateway to Hope by E.C. Jackson is an inspirational romance story that has an engaging plot and a message of pushing through despite facing adversity.  Readers learn about optimistic but introverted 21-year-old Neka and 29-year-old James Copley, who are two people from very different backgrounds. James' fiancé leaves him on the same day she is supposed to meet his family and James is stuck because his father has made it clear that the only way James can continue to be involved in the family business is for James to marry.  This is exactly when Neka steps in, and the two, each with their unique personalities, force each other to face issues they've been trying to avoid while walking through new horizons.

Everything about A Gateway to Hope is awesome - the writing, the story, the characters. The author is able to bring the story to life in such a believable way and uses such attention to detail that readers seem to see and feel everything clearly. It was actually pretty amazing how I felt like I was part of this book instead of just reading it.  I loved Neka's faithful love of God and I loved how the author was able to tie everything up very beautifully at the end.

A Gateway to Hope follows the story of Neka and James. Neka is a 21 year old designer for her families company. She has an eye for fashion but has never seen herself as anything worth writing home about. James is a 29 year old entrepreneur who knows he is what the ladies are looking for. Their friendship has developed a lot over the past four years. It takes a whole new leap when Neka decides to jump on a plane with James, surprising him and her family, to go meet his family and help support him through a new season of his life.

I am not usually one for romance novels but this one reeled me in and kept me wanting more. The characterization by the author was beautiful. I was able to vividly imagine the characters and all the details surrounding them. I could even hear the distinct voices of each character.

The plot ark was somewhat confusing. There was no rhyme or reason to the rising action and the climax. It was a roller coaster between rising and falling action without their being a true climax. There was plenty of suspense and conflict but the resolve felt too rushed. I was anticipating a cliff hanger until the last few pages.

I loved Neka's infallible love for the lord. It inspired me to stay committed to my beliefs. The epilogue was very sweet. The author was able to tie everything up very beautifully. It left me feeling very happy.

A Gateway to Hope, by E. C. Jackson is the first book in the Hope Series. This is a nicely written book that is easy to read and envision. This is an enjoyable story in that it shows the growth that happens in both the main characters. Neka is a 21 year old college graduate that still lives with her parents and works for the family business along with her siblings and parents. James left his family home when it became clear to him that being part of the family business was not going to be at all easy.

This is an enjoyable story to read in that it leads the reader believe 2 people who know each other will marry just so James can be part of the family business. It is enjoyable to see how their past really was and how their relationship develops. I found the background information interesting in that it explains what the true situation is with their families and jobs. It is interesting to see how their fathers control the families and the choices they have to make if they want to move forward with each other. I enjoyed the faith Neka has an how open she is to share this with others. Being a Christian contemporary romance, this story does contain conversations about pre-marital sex, so I would not recommend this for a younger reader.

This is an enjoyable story to read, of which I received a complimentary copy. This is my honest review.

'Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed.....'
James is a self-made business man who has trouble seeing anyone else's viewpoint. Dumped by his fiancé at the airport, all his plans seem to blow up in front of him. Neka is a gorgeous young lady who always believes the best in everyone. Leaving home without letting anyone know, she steps into a world where everything changes. What follows is a story of learning to share of yourself, those deepest thoughts and feelings, as well as understanding that in a relationship you must be ready to forgive and move on. I appreciated how the spiritual walk of these characters evolved over the novel, bringing them to a much better awareness of God's leading in their lives.

This is the first book I've read by this author and the writing style was easy to read. The Christian content was encouraging, but I kept waiting for James to redeem himself which seemed to take a long time. I did get discouraged by the amount of drama between the families.

I like Neta but felt she was going overboard to always be there for James. Her engagement I felt was a little hasty. The romance between Neta and James was sweet. Neta tried her best to rely on God's principles to help guide her.

My Thoughts:
A Gateway to Hope is a wonderful novel! I do confess it has taken me longer to read this one than most of the other books I’ve read lately. Mainly because there are a lot of nuggets that I’m tucking away and then reexamining when the time comes.

James is self-absorbed. He was dealt with what he believes to be a bad hand and he’s set out to make it work out to the best for him. I don’t see that he’s really cared about what anyone else feels or experiences as a result. That is until Neka comes into his life. Nikhol is a wonderful Christian girl that he befriended and sought out her company.

But Neka is nine years his junior and not someone most people could see him settling down with. But maybe she’s just what he needs?

They have a friendship to base everything off of, but is it enough to spend the rest of their life together? Can they convince their families that they really are getting married?

Neka has a very close relationship with her sisters and parents. When she leaves without telling them and then springs being engaged on top of that things start to happen and fast. Before the sun sets on many days the family has all arrived and major company buyouts and changes are taking place.

I’m not in the business world but I see this as a huge power play. Eventually, someone is going to miscalculate something and things won’t go as planned. But who will suffer in the end? And will things all work out for good?

Great read. I recommend this book and am now going to check out more by this author.

I received an ebook copy of this book so that I could read it. All thoughts and opinions are my own and I was not forced or coerced to write a positive review.

(3.5 stars) Neka and James are very different. Neka is kind and thinks the best of others while James is a workaholic and can be controlling at times. They've known each other for four years but since they met when Neka was 17, James considered her to be too young for him. However, now James needs to get married and, when his original plan disintegrates, he believes Neka is the solution to his predicament.

I liked Neka and thought there were times that she might have been a little too trusting, but she shows her faith and trust in God and His plan for her throughout the book. Neka loves James but isn't willing to give in to all of his demands just to be with him--he needs to compromise with her. While I never disliked James, I liked the changes he made and the growth he experienced along the way. His controlling side comes out a few times and he makes some choices that don't always sit well with Neka. Their relationship is full of ups and downs and felt realistic that way.

While I did enjoy this book overall, it started out slow to me so it took me a while to get into it. It would pick up and then slow down again, which made it easier for me to put down for a while. I can't pinpoint why I didn't devour it so it's probably a case of timing for me.

This is Christian fiction and their beliefs are expressed throughout the entire book. I loved that it was squeaky clean! It will appeal to those who enjoy sweet, clean Christian romance!

Even though I'm not a big fan of romance novels, I enjoyed it. I loved how Neka and James vacationed in St. Louis, MO for a few weeks. I would've enjoyed it even more if the author wrote more about their time in St. Louis and the adventures they had while there. I'm looking forward to reading more from E.C. Jackson.

Good although a bit slow moving.

Truly an inspirational story, but slow moving at times. More than a few times I was not a fan of James. He appeared a bit of a power freak , as I kept reading I saw a different side of James that changed my mind. Sweet and inspiring story it was just slow in getting there.
