Having read The New France, (superb), and The New Spain, ( very good), I was keen to get on to this as I love Italian wine. Unfortunately it's a big disappointment. Much less personal than the other books, it essentially provides generic information rather than insight. If you already have a good basic knowledge of Itanian wine this will not add much. It has the feel of a churned out book as if someone said, 'oh God, I suppose we better do an Italian book now'. Why or why, for instance did the editor allow the descriptions of individual producers in each region to be listed randomly rather than in alphabetical order, lazy and absolutely maddening if you want to quickly look up a particular producer.
