The white buffalo is a sacred and holy creature to the Lakota. Buffalo Dreamer, a holy woman, and her husband, Rising Eagle, have not only been blessed to see the white buffalo, they have eaten of its heart and have been told by the sacred beast that as long as the Lakota have the white buffalo hide, all will be well. But all is not well. White hunters have stolen the sacred white robe and great misfortune has befallen the Lakota. Settlers continue to invade Lakota territory, backed by vicious cavalry forces that massacre women and children. The Lakota are starving and their anger is growing. Led by Rising Eagle, a great force of Lakota and other tribes wage war upon the white man. Together they battle to regain the land stolen from them, to protect the precious buffalo the white man wantonly destroys, and to search for the sacred white robe.
I am a USA-TODAY best-selling author with 41 years, 76 books, and numerous writing awards behind me. My major genre is historical romance. I have always written for standard publishers but am now writing strictly for Amazon so I have more freedom to write real history. My most recent publication is SHADOW TRAIL, the 6th book in my Outlaw Hearts series. I also wrote and published my first full-length contemporary story, DANCING BENEATH YOU, in September 2022, a romance involving mystery and a depiction of reservation life in the Badlands of South Dakota. My best sellers are my SAVAGE DESTINY series (7 books) and my OUTLAW HEARTS series. See my website (www.rosannebittner.com) for details on all my books - most available for Kindle and in print. I am known for great love stories filled with real history and high emotion. I have also written many Native American stories, all based on real history.
I love American history. For those of you who have not yet read my books, my stories are generally set in the American West of the 1800s and feature vividly described, historically accurate settings that span the US from Missouri to California, from Canada to Mexico. Many of my books portray the poignant history of our Native Americans, and though the characters are my own, I use real historical locations and events in all my novels. I have also written about the French & Indian wars, American Revolution, the War of 1812, the war with Mexico (the Alamo), and the Civil War.
National magazine ROMANTIC TIMES has called me the "Queen of Western Romance" and an "emotional powerhouse." My husband and I have traveled the west for nearly 40 years and I have visited just about every location mentioned in my books.

Ya'll know me and my "thing" with Indians...well this book had actual historical facts added to it and I found that I just got angerier with every chapter. The soldiers inhumane treatment of the Lokota(Sioux), the governments constant breaking of treaties, taking away promised land and so on. Sure the Indians were bad dudes, but then they had a right to be after the way they were treated. They were willing to "share", but not the white man....he has to have it all, constantly taking and taking.......
I wouldn't call this series a romance. It was a family saga. The last book was good. I enjoyed it. A bit sad. But I saw the ending coming. It was well written. If you're looking for a saga, I recommend. If you're looking for a romance, I'll tell you upfront it's a story about a Sioux family.
If you want to know what it was really like for Native Americans instead of the way they are portrayed in western novels as savages, I highly recommend this series.
Mystic Warriors is book 3 of a series of books told from the Indian point of view. The romance that was engaging in Book 1 kinda fizzed out. And there was even less shared with the reader about how the Indians lived besides how they wanted to kill and get revenge. The story became quite a bore and I only skimmed thru that last few pages to see if the ending would make up for a sad storyline. I expected much more from this usually incredible author.
No substance, not worth the time. I was so surprised that after reading 3 EXCELLENT Rosanne Bittner books that this Indian fairytale ended up in my lap.
As Rosanne Bittner is known for, she educates along with entertains in the last book of the Mystic Trilogy. Watching history unfold through the personal lives of Rising Eagle and his Buffalo Dreamer, you learn a new way of looking at your reality. I enjoyed watching their family grow, hurt with their trials, and rejoiced in their triumphs. This book, well, the whole series really, made me feel deep and left me with a pretty big hangover. Always a good thing!
The conclusion of Rosanne Bittner's epic tale of the Sioux, the Battle of Little Bighorn and the love lost, sacrificed and reclaimed will leave you yearning for more.
