501 Writing Prompts

Rate this book
High school exit exams, college placement exams, and other important high stakes tests require students to answer specific questions-in writing-while under pressure. In fact, the written exercises students encounter are assigned with the clock ticking and anxiety rising, so it is important to have a strong grounding in basic writing skills so that students can do their best when put to the test. 501Writing Prompts uses over 500 sample writing prompts that simulate actual test questions, all designed to help students gain the writing skills needed to ace exams. This book teaches precisely how to pull together the right 250 words or less to answer any writing prompt and full answers and explanations are included with each question.

I found this book to be pretty useful. What I love about it is that there are prompt across various essay types (persuasive, narrative, etc.) and that there is a rubric to gauge or identify a student's success for that type of prompt. I did find that some of the prompts were a bit repetitive in some ways, or were similar to other prompts, but I do think there are some very worthy and interesting topics to write about here. And, that is the bottom line: engaging topics that can drive writing. I really thought the sample essays were awesome. I would recommend this for any student who would like to practice writing on various topics or types of essays.

I use this for writing practice for students. Many of the prompts are good, but some are not student empassioned.
