This is very interesting book. It tells how the Magna Carta came about due to problems with rulers having too much power. It discusses The Charter of Liberties, the crusades and Richard the Lion-Hearted. It discusses the topics covered in the Magna Carta and how this document related to the tax problems in the American colonies, their lack of representation in Parliament, the Declaration of Independence and the Revolutionary War.

It also discusses preserving ancient documents. The book includes a timeline of events, a glossary and some other related books. Considering all this centers on the year 1215 it helps show how events long ago can influence even the present-day world. Very well done.

Good for a brief history and explanation of the Magna Carta, written at the reading level of an older child, but certainly with enough information for anyone to benefit.

Too long and technical for kids. Ok for research source but otherwise not a favorite. Summarized much of it for the kids.
