This book is a real treasure. It's funny and tragic and uplifting. The only stories of Ukrainians I have ever heard before these were the stories of my own family. I loved reading these stories, I felt so much pride reading them. The preface is so excellent, I read it 3 times. If you are like me, someone desperate to know as much as possible about her Ukrainian roots and Ukrainian history then this book will be a great read for you. Highly recommended.

These were fascinating stories both of Ukrainians' experiences in a new land - Canada, as well as some of the more horrific experiences that many Ukrainians endured during WWII, particularly in the concentration camps. I enjoyed learning more about "my people." The stories and poems were touching, humorous and eye-opening.

I really enjoyed this collection of immigrant experiences from Canada. I am sure many families could identify with several of the stories.
