"Gerry the Giraffe Learns Why It's Good to Share" by Cressida Elias, is an allegorical fable featuring two giraffe brothers, George and Gerry. Living in Africa during the dry season, water was a scarce commodity. The two brothers decided to split up, each going in a different direction to look for water. Whichever one found water first was to signal the other, so they could both get a drink. But when Gerry finds water, he decides to take a drink before calling George.

George finds Gerry drinking the last of the water, and Gerry realizes he has done a bad thing. To make amends, he carries George on his back until they find another watering hole.

Gerry learns a lesson about sharing. By reading this story, it is hoped children will also learn about sharing. It is a cute story, short, and easy to read. It is one of "The Safari Children's Books on Good Behavior", and would be a worthwhile story for your young children or grandchildren. The physical book has several colored illustrations, and is probably better suited for being read to a child, rather than as a book the child would read. Regardless of who does the reading, the lesson is a good one, and I recommend the book on that merit.
