His best-loved characters are probably Kipper and Wibbly Pig – who are both stars of their very own TV series!
He began his career as a graphic designer, and worked with another children’s author Nick Butterworth (of Percy the Park Keeper fame) on a cartoon strip for the Sunday Express. In 1989 The Blue Balloon was published to great acclaim, and established him as an important and original voice in children’s picture books. He and his wife, Debbie, also had children of their own by this point: “Without the experience of having children of my own I doubt that I would have been capable of writing effectively for children. And yet it’s true that good work really springs from trying to please yourself”
Mick lives in Essex with his wife and two children.
He began his career as a graphic designer, declining a place to study English at Cambridge University. During this period he worked with Nick Butterworth, a fellow children’s author, from whom he learned design and typography. Together they developed a cartoon strip for the Sunday Express magazine, later to become a first series of children’s picture books. They also worked in children’s television.

June 8, 2019I feel personally attacked by this relatable ursine. Though, for the record, I don't eat books. Just smell them sometimes.

When I first read this to my toddler, I just thought it was a cute book, but it left me feeling sad and that I'd missed a deeper meaning. Then my husband pointed out to me that I was Wibbly Pig and the big bear is my child, who I will raise and have fun with but will leave one day and I'll miss forever. Now this book makes me cry every time I read it, but it's so sweet and beautiful that I can't help but love it. I think it's brilliant to write a seemingly innocent book for young children that utterly resonates with parents.

Wonderful tale of the friendship between Wibbly Pig and Silly Big Bear. SBB can't use a spoon to eat his peas, and so has to eat them one by one with his paws, it takes forever. A book that teaches that your friends may have faults but you can still value their friendship. Lovely, cutsey illustrations.

Delightful, sweet and funny story. Loved the lesson that we should look for the strengths in others...they don't have to match our own....as those different strengths can come in handy in many different situations. Young children will love the clear illustrations. Well done!
