A sequel to "A Mislaid Magic". As Amity observes the oddities of life around her in the years following the war, her brother returns from America, uneasy about his roots without knowing why, and her sister prepares for marriage. Amity's own affairs become increasingly complicated and bizarre.
Loved the first in the series, A Mislaid Magic, about an eccentric aristocratic family staging a music festival. Also loved the child narrator, Amy, and the story of upper class life. Jessica Mitford in tone. In this second novel, Amy is an adult, her eldest sister is married to a spendthrift duke, and her other is about to marry her wartime sweetheart. Amy has to sort out the complications set up in the first novel, steer Claudia to the altar and negotiate some strange goings on in the village. This lacked the pace and wit of the first but was a worthy and entertaining sequel. Just begun the final book in the trilogy, Arriving in Snowy Weather.
